Advertisement 1:
According to the advertisement of Nivea “White is Purity”, it simply means that most of the time
white symbolizes purity, pureness, innocence, and cleanliness. Nivea wants people to know that their
products bring cleanliness in personal hygiene, and with the help of nivea the consumers can be neat
and decent. There are two messages behind the ad, one is a negative and one is a positive, a negative
for those who are black and positive for the white ones for they are being praised.
2. How is the message underscored? What semiotics are used (text? images? others?)
They emphasize the message through using light colors to enhance the message being
conveyed, and by writing their quote that matches the background. They used symbolic semiotics, by
showing an image where the back of a woman wearing white is visible, to match the message of the
advertisement.
Mostly black people would be offended by the ad due to the fact that nivea became racist and
praised only those white people, black people would think of it as a negative ad for them and think of
themselves not pure like those white, which is unfair for them for the reason that nivea advertises their
product that is black and white as shown in the picture.
There are a lot of ways to present or deliver the message without offending anyone, for example
they can actually change the advertisement into something that is fair enough for those black, they
should always think first about the impression of the people who will actually see the advertisement that
they will conduct.
In my opinion the ad is actually not ethical, it's not fair for those people who actually felt
offended by the message of the advertisement, and the ad did not actually respect black as if they are
bad and not pure who don't actually deserve to have rights as a human.
Advertisement 2:
If you are sad, there are a lot of possibilities to solve those problems that you are
encountering, you don't need to be sad. Enjoy the things that can make you happy, everything does
have a solution, there will be a time wherein you'll feel like everything turns its back to you, but
someone told me that there is always a way in times of suffering. Be positive and try to be happy.
The message was emphasized through the signs that are actually in the ads, like the sad
face which represents the symbolic semiotics for this ad. It shows the chicken and the bone that
actually looks delicious and tempting for the audience of the ad which is actually the main purpose
of KFC to release their advertisement.
In my opinion the advertisement did not offend anyone, it actually gives positive energy and
a message for those people who are actually sad and miserable. Cheer up to those people who are
actually sad, just like what sova said “If you are not in a good shot today, don't worry there are
many other ways to be useful”.
You can actually deliver the message in a lot of ways, since its also a positive
advertisement, perhaps another joke or try something that will actually match with the food that is
being advertise, just like the phrase of KFC ``its finger lickin’ good”.
Based from what I observe or see, it is an ethical advertisement because it doesn't actually
step on someone's right, and they are also fair, and it's actually a fact that there are a lot of
solutions to solve the problem.
