 This assessment task requires you to complete a project.
 You will receive your feedback within two weeks - you will be notified by your
trainer/assessor when results are available.
 You must attempt all activities of the project for your trainer/assessor to assess your
competency in this assessment task.

will be Satisfactory or Not Satisfactory.
 As you complete this assessment task you are predominately demonstrating your
practical skills, techniques and knowledge to your trainer/assessor.
 The trainer/assessor may ask you relevant questions on this assessment task to
ensure that this is your own work.

Purpose of the assessment task:

This assessment task is designed to evaluate your following skills and abilities:
 Ability to implement and configure the desktop virtualisation infrastructure and
services and implement the application virtualisation

Assessment Task 3: Unit Project

provided.
 Please follow the format as indicated in the template section below.
 One of the most important steps that you can take: proofread your project.
 Project must be of 500-800 words in length, using 11-point font, double-spaced, and
must include a cover page, table of contents, introduction, body, summary or
conclusion, and works cited.
 Appropriate citations are required.
 All RTO policies are in effect, including the plagiarism policy.

Resources required to complete the assessment task:

 Computer
 Internet
 MS Word
 A site where desktop virtualisation may be conducted
 A live network (LAN)
 Servers and computers
 Switches and routers
 Workplace health and safety (WHS) standards, environmental guidelines (Provided in
scenario)

Activity 1 (Implementation of the Desktop virtualisation environment)

This activity is continuation of assessment task 2. You are required to participate in a

practical demonstration task. You need to complete this activity in 2 to 3 hours. Additional
time will be provided for analysis and preparing documentation.

Note: For This activity RTO/Assessor will provide you the following:

 A site where desktop virtualisation may be conducted

 A live network (LAN)
 Servers and computers
 Switches and routers

Now, considering yourself as the System Administrator Steve, you need to implement and
configure the desktop virtualisation environment and the devices. You need to work as per
the instructions of the IT Manager which will be acted by the trainer/assessor and he will be
responsible to provide stimulated environment for the implementation of the virtualisation.
For this activity you need to perform the following tasks,

 Obtain the Desktop virtualisation software and that is to be provided by the trainer.
As discussed in the plan as the Windows platform has been used across the council
office and data centre so VMware workstation is the appropriate one. You also
need to implement the desktop virtualisation technologies as per the given scenario.
 Install and configure the Virtual desktop environment. The following must be done:

o Select Deployment Type
o Review of role Services
o Specify which server to act as the RD Connection Broker Server
o Specify which server to act as the RD Web Access Server
o Specify the RD Virtualisation Host
 Implement the specific features and function of Virtual desktop infrastructure
 Manage and implement the testing process on the desktop virtualised setup
o View performance charts
o Check physical performance
o Check antivirus is up to date
o Check system is up to date

You trainer will observe your performance and complete the following checklist.

Guideline: We will have to improvise and get the help of attaching screenshots to respond
to this question. Many of us, we have tried to practice installing virtual machine on our local
computer as well as on Microsoft Azure.

Installation: In this part, you will have to include screenshots of all the steps of configuring
a virtual machine. So far we have practiced creating two virtual machines and making them
connect each other. So for this assessment task, you will need to include all the evidence of
your work (Screenshots), where it shows you have done this activity on your end.

For this activity, you can consider utilising resources related to virtual box / vmware
workstation (any).

Select Deployment type: In this part you will have to discuss different types of virtualisation
deployment methods and how it works (briefly) and at the end, you should pick one
particular way of deployment the virtual machine. Now, you will have to remember the
requirement of the HUNE City Council.

Review of role Services: In this part, you ware expected to include the list of different
services which should be available via desktop virtualisation.

Specific features and functions: In this part, you will have to discuss any relevant features
the virtual desktop should have in order to meet the requirement of the HUNE City council.
You can research online for useful features of desktop virtualisation.

Remote Desktop Connection Broker: Explain what is RDCB and then mention which
computer or server you are planning for this act.

Then as requested in the question, you will have to discuss and provide relevant screenshots
where it shows physical performance, antivirus up to date and system is up to date or not.

Activity 2: (Implementation of the application virtualisation software)

This activity is continuation of previous task. You are required to participate in a practical
demonstration task. You need to complete this activity in 2 to 3 hours. Additional time will
be provided for analysis and preparing documentation.

Note: For This activity RTO/Assessor will provide you the following:

 A site where desktop virtualisation may be conducted

 A live network (LAN)
 Servers and computers
 Switches and routers
After the implementation of the desktop virtualisation environment, as a System
Administrator, you need to implement the application virtualisation software. You will
perform the implementation as per the instructions and under the supervision of the
trainer/assessor. For this activity you need to perform the following tasks:

 Prepare an implementation plan for the application virtualisation software and

complete the given template 2 for planning of the application feature.
o Analyses of the Application Software
o Identify the software, hardware and tools required for implementation of
application virtualisation
o Implementation of Application Software
 Configure/install the application virtual software
 Test the application virtual software
 Manage, update and tune the system components

You trainer will observe your performance and complete the following checklist.

Template 2 for planning of Application virtualisation

Project Goals

Lets say in this part, you will have to discuss about the primary goal of this project is to implement application
virtualisation software in the newly desktop virtualisation environment. Then you can talk about why this
action is being taken. You can talk about what does the project aim to achieve.

Organisation
In this part, you will be discussing about the organisation (HUNE City Council) and its daily or regular tasks for
which they would like to implement the application virtualisation.

Analysis of the Application Software

In this part, you will have to discuss several application virtualisation software here and provide detailed
information for each For example:
Microsoft App-V: Explain and discuss its features and benefit
VMWare Thin App - Explain and discuss its features and benefit
Citrix DaaS: Explain and discuss its features and benefit
Paralles RAS: Explain and discuss its features and benefit
Once you have done above, you will have to select one particular software for application virtualisation.

Identify the software, hardware and tools required for implementation of application virtualisation
Here basically you provide the information for the application virtualisation software that you picked above
and its requirement such as :
Hardware infrastructure:
Tools for packaging and deployment:
Licencing and support:
Etc etc

Implementation of Application Software

In this part you will be discussing the steps and process of application virtualisation software installation that
you have chosen above. If you have picked Microsoft APP-V, then you will need to discuss the process of
installing Microsoft App-V Sequencer. There are many resources online from which you can get the help and
configuration images to include within your answer.
