3.0 STEAM TURBINE:
• Steam turbine consists of two separate turbines, H turbine and E turbine. All the blades of both
the turbines are of approximately 50% reaction type. H turbine is run by HP steam and E turbine
is run by IP & LP steam.
• Combined stop and control valve configuration is used for HP & IP steam admission. Butterfly
valves are used for stop and control functions of LP steam admission.
• H turbine is of barrel type and Outer casing of E turbine is divided in two sections, the cast inlet
casing (IP) and welded exhaust casing (LP). Both sections are horizontally split. The upper and
lower halves are held together by bolt joint. Inlet and exhaust sections are also bolted together.
• Thrust bearing which is located within the rear bearing pedestal of H turbine represents the fixed
point for rotor of both turbines. Casing of both the turbines are also fixed at the rear bearing
pedestal of H turbine.
• Labyrinth seals used to prevent air ingress into the turbine and steam leakage to atmosphere.
• Closed cooling water system is provided to cool the equipments and components of gas turbine,
steam turbine and water/steam cycle. It consists of CCW pumps, heat exchanger and expansion
tank.
• Axial flow condenser serves as a heat sink and a collection point for recovery of the turbine
exhaust steam. It also deaerates condensate during normal operation. It is a surface heat
exchanger with water and steam in cross flow, in such a way that steam flows around the tubes.
Circulating water flows through the tubes in two pass.
• IP/LP bypass system (not 100% capacity) is also provided. HP bypass is routed via IP bypass
after pressure reduction and desuperheating.
• Online tube cleaning system is provided to prevent deposition inside condenser tubes.
• Liquid ring vacuum pump with air operated air ejector as first stage is provided for evacuation of
condenser.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS:
• The plant is of single shaft configuration, so generator is common for GT and ST. Voltage level is
stepped up from generation level to transmission level with the help of generator transformer.
Generators are connected to generator transformer through isolated phase bus duct.
Interconnecting transformers (ICT) are provided for stepping down the voltage level for
distribution to Surat city and also to state grid.
• Unit auxiliary transformers are provided to feed power to MV distribution boards.10/20/30 BBE.
• Auxiliary transformers are provided to feed power to LV distribution boards 10/20/30 BFA & BFE,
00BMA and 00BHA.
• 220 V DC distribution boards are BUB, BUC and BUD.
• The generator is started as synchronous motor with a variable frequency drive (SFC). Two
numbers of SFC units are provided in the plant common for three units.
• Fast acting automatic bus transfer system is provided between MV distribution boards of all units.
• Two numbers of black start diesel generator sets are provided for black start of the plant. Each
one is connected to Unit 10 & 30 MV board. One DG set is sufficient to cater the emergency load
of the plant, but operation of both the DG sets is must for black start of the plant.
• High voltage power evacuation system (switch yard) is equipped with sophisticated control,
protections and metering systems.
• ABT metering system is envisaged for interface points as per CEA regulations.
