Assignment 3

This document contains information about software project management including: 1. It defines activity on node and activity on arc network diagrams and lists the main time management processes. 2. It provides answers to multiple choice questions about project schedule management processes like defining activities, sequencing activities, and estimating durations. 3. It asks questions about network diagram relationships like finish-to-finish and start-to-start and precedence diagramming methods.

Sheet 3
A- Answer the following questions
1- Define activity on node and activity on arc?
Answer:
-Activity on node: is represented by a node. The arcs then are used just to show the
precedence relationships between the activities.
-Activity on arc: is used to separate an activity (an outgoing arc) from each of its immediate
predecessors (an incoming arc).

2- What are the main processes of Time Management?

Answer:
1. Planning schedule management, 2. Define activities, 3. Sequence activities,
4. Estimate activity resources, 5. Estimate activity durations, 6. Develop schedule,
7. Control schedule.

3- What is the meaning of Finish to Finish and Start-to-start?

Answer:

Finish to Finish Start to Start

-The finish of one task depends on the finish - The start of one task depends on the start
of another task. of another task.
-Task A must finish before Task B can -Task A must start before Task B can start.
finish.

B- Answer the following multiple-choice questions

1- In project schedule management, which process generates the main outputs of an
activity list, activity attributes, and a milestone list?
A. sequencing activities
B. defining activities
C. resource estimating activities.
D. estimating activity durations.

2- In project schedule management, which process primarily involve identifying and

documenting the relationships between project activities?
A. defining activities
B. sequencing activities
C. planning schedule management
D. estimating activity durations
3- In project schedule management, what is the next step after defining project activities?
A. planning schedule management
B. determining their dependencies.
C. controlling the schedule.
D. estimating activity duration.

4- Which is true of a finish-to-finish dependency?

A. It is a dependency in which the “from” activity cannot start until the “to” activity or
successor is started.
B. It is a dependency in which in which the “from” activity must finish before the “to”
activity or successor can start.
C. It is a dependency in which the “from” activity must be finished before the “to”
activity can be finished.
D. It is a dependency in which the “from” activity must start before the “to” activity can
be finished.

5- In Precedence Diagramming Method, which of the following relationships is rarely used:

A. Finish-to-Start (most commonly used)
B. Start-to-Finish (mesh bytshaf kter fel diagram)
C. Start-to-Start
D. Finish-to-Finish

6- Identification of Mandatory Dependencies is BEST done during which process:

A. Sequence Activities
B. Develop Schedule
C. Define Activities
D. Estimate Activity Duration

7- Which of the following are claimed as advantages of the AON method over the
AOA method of network diagram notation?
A. Most computer software uses the AON approach.
B. AON do not need dummy activities to maintain the relationship logic.
C. AON diagrams have a clearer notation than AOA.
D. All the mentioned.

8- The successor activity cannot be finished until the predecessor activity starts. This is
an example of which kind of relationship:
A. Finish to Start (FS)
B. Finish to Finish (FF)
C. Start to Start (SS)
D. Start to Finish (SF)

9- Define the following network diagram:

A. Both activities B and C can begin as soon as A ends.
B. Activity B begins when activity A ends.
C. Activity C begins when both A and B end.
D. both A and C must finish before either of B or D can start

10- Define the following network diagram:

A. Both activities B and C can begin as soon as A ends.

B. Activity B begins when activity A ends.
C. Activity C begins when both A and B end.
D. both A and C must finish before either of B or D can start

C- State True/False
The Backward method begins with the initial event, marking the beginning of the project,
and proceeds forward till the end event is reached.
A. true B. false

Scheduling means the process of deciding how to arrange resources between varieties of
possible activities and tasks.
A. true B. false

An event is indicated on the AON network by a number enclosed in a circle or a

square
A. true B. false

A dummy activity is required when the network contains two or more activities that
have identical starting and ending events.
A. true
B. false
