Unit Three: Organize basic directory/ folder structure and files
Creating folders/directories using CMD:-
 Type CMD command from start menu search bar and then press enter.
 If you want to create folder named “family” inside drive D: \or any other location...
 Type “D:” then press enter
 Type “mkdir family” press enter
 D:\>
 Type exit and press enter and the folder has been created successfully inside local disk
D:\
Unit five: Operate application software
Create word document
Before creating the word document, you need to be ensuring that MS-office either installed or
not, if installed on your personal computer, you actually expected to open the recommended
application i.e. example: - MS-word 2007 or 2010.
If you want to create MS-office word document, go to start-> Click on MS- Office and finally
click on MS –word 2007/10. The below figure describes an interface of MS office word 2010.
Change the Basic Setting of Documents

The way the tools and menus are organized in Word 2010 is known as the user interface. You
will learn about The Ribbon, Quick Access Toolbar, File Menu and other key parts of Word.
The Ribbon the Ribbon runs along the top, contains all the Word tools, and is organized into
three parts:

Tabs – represent a general activity area


Groups – show related tools (commands) together
Commands – a button, expandable menu, or a box for entering related information
Use Mail Merge
Mailing is the process of sending an e-message across the net to the receiver electronically.
Insert Tables and Images
 Tables are used to fill out information about person, object and other entities of the
world.
 Tables are created with the combination of columns and rows.

Rows
 Rows are lines which that are drawn in horizontally. Row represents the full information
about an individual or an object. E.g.

Inserting Clip art, Shapes, Equations, Symbols and formula’s in your document
Instruction to perform the following Clip art, Shapes, Equations, Symbols and formulas
given below in the table
To insert a below clip arts, click on insert tab -> then click on Clip Art menu including
(business mans and PC) from the listed illustrations at the right corner of the word
interface.
To insert the below shapes including (smile face, down ribbon and cloud callout).
To insert the formula as given below go to insert => click on equation menu and select
the quadratic equation from the list.
To create a formula of Water as given below in the table. Hint:-Use subscript and
superscript.
To insert symbols given in the below table=> click on insert tab => go to symbols and
again click on more symbols => select dangerous sign.

 Open paint and draw an Ethiopian flag and save the file on the desktop.
