CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Problem Statement

In today's dynamic global superstore landscape, understanding customer behavior is

paramount for sustained profitability and competitiveness. Traditional profit analysis methods
struggle to process the vast and diverse data generated by superstores, leading to delayed
insights and missed opportunities. Leveraging advanced analytics tools like Power BI is crucial
for real-time profit analysis, enabling superstores to swiftly identify revenue opportunities,
optimize pricing strategies, and enhance customer engagement through personalized offerings.
This approach fosters agility, competitiveness, and sustainable growth in the global superstore
sector.

1.2 Proposed Solution

The proposed solution is to develop a Power BI dashboard that can analyze and
visualize real-time data from various sources such as sales transactions, inventory levels, expenses,
and market trends. This data would feed into a dynamic Power BI dashboard designed to provide a real-
time view of sales performance, profit margins, and key performance indicators (KPIs) across different
product categories, regions, and time periods. The dashboard would utilize interactive visuals and filters
to enable users to drill down into specific data subsets and identify trends or anomalies in real-time.
Additionally, advanced analytics techniques like predictive modeling could be applied to forecast future
sales and profitability, allowing superstores to proactively adjust strategies and optimize operations for
maximum profit. By leveraging Power BI's capabilities for real-time data analysis and visualization,
superstores can gain valuable insights to drive profitability and sustainable business growth.

1.3 Feature

 Real-Time Analysis: The dashboard will provide real-time analysis of customer data.
 Customer Segmentation: It will segment customers based on various parameters like age,
income, transaction behavior, etc.
 Trend Analysis: The dashboard will identify and display trends in customer behavior.
 Predictive Analysis: It will use historical data to predict future customer behavior.

1.4 Advantages

 Data-Driven Decisions: Banks can make informed decisions based on real-time data analysis.
 Improved Customer Engagement: Understanding customer behavior and trends can help
banks engage with their customers more effectively.
 Increased Revenue: By identifying opportunities for cross-selling and up-selling, banks can
increase their revenue.

1.5 Scope

The scope for profit analysis using Power BI is expansive, employing a comprehensive
approach to extract valuable insights from diverse datasets. By aggregating and harmonizing
sales, expense, and profit data, Power BI enables thorough analysis across regions and product
categories. Advanced analytics tools like trend analysis and predictive modeling help identify
key drivers impacting profit margins and anticipate market trends. Integration of external data
sources provides a holistic view, aiding strategic decision-making. With interactive
dashboards, stakeholders gain real-time access to performance metrics, facilitating dynamic
adjustments in business strategies. Ultimately, Power BI empowers proactive, data-driven
decision-making, fostering sustainable growth and competitive advantage for global
superstores.

CHAPTER 2

SERVICES AND TOOLS REQUIRED

2.1 Services Used

 Data Collection and Storage Services: Stores need to collect and store customer data
in real-time. This could be achieved through services like Azure Data Factory, Azure
Event Hubs, or AWS Kinesis for real-time data collection, and Azure SQL Database or
AWS RDS for data storage.

2.2 Tools and Software used

Tools:

 PowerBI: The main tool for this project is PowerBI, which will be used to create
interactive dashboards for real-time data visualization.

 Power Query: This is a data connection technology that enables you to discover,
connect, combine, and refine data across a wide variety of sources.

Software Requirements:

 PowerBI Desktop: This is a Windows application that you can use to create reports
and publish them to PowerBI.

 PowerBI Service: This is an online SaaS (Software as a Service) service that you use
to publish reports, create new dashboards, and share insights.

Analysis

Here’s a high-level architecture for the project:

1. Data Collection: Real-time customer data is collected from various sources like bank
transactions, customer interactions, etc. This could be achieved using services like
Azure Event Hubs or AWS Kinesis.
2. Data Storage: The collected data is stored in a database for processing. Azure SQL
Database or AWS RDS can be used for this purpose.
3. Data Processing: The stored data is processed in real-time using services like Azure
Stream Analytics or AWS Kinesis Data Analytics.
4. Machine Learning: Predictive models are built based on processed data using Azure
Machine Learning or AWS SageMaker. These models can help in predicting customer
behavior, detecting fraud, etc.
5. Data Visualization: The processed data and the results from the predictive models are
visualized in real-time using PowerBI. PowerBI allows you to create interactive
dashboards that can provide valuable insights into the data.
6. Data Access: The dashboards created in PowerBI can be accessed through PowerBI
Desktop, PowerBI Service (online), and PowerBI Mobile.
This architecture provides a comprehensive solution for real-time analysis of bank customers.
However, it’s important to note that the specific architecture may vary depending on the bank’s
existing infrastructure, specific requirements, and budget. It’s also important to ensure that all
tools and services comply with relevant data privacy and security regulations.

MODELING AND RESULT

1. Remove Errors in the Order ID column: This involves identifying and rectifying any
inconsistencies or errors present in the Order ID column. These errors could include missing
values, duplicates, or incorrect formatting. By cleaning the Order ID column, the dataset
becomes more reliable and accurate for analysis.

2. Make changes in Order Date column using Date Filter: This step involves applying a
date filter to the Order Date column. Specifically, it requires setting the filter to include only
orders made within a specific date range. In this case, the Advanced Option is utilized to
specify that the Order Date should be after or equal to 11-05-2024 (November 5, 2024) and
before or equal to 05-08-2016 (May 8, 2016), effectively filtering the dataset to include only
orders placed within this timeframe.

3. Remove Row ID Column: The Row ID column is typically a redundant identifier that
simply enumerates each row in the dataset. Removing this column streamlines the dataset and
reduces clutter, as it does not provide any meaningful information for analysis.

4. Add Filter for quantity column > Number Filter > Greater than or equal to 2: This
action involves applying a filter to the Quantity column to include only rows where the
quantity of items ordered is greater than or equal to 2. By setting this filter, the analysis focuses
on transactions where multiple items were purchased, potentially indicating higher-value
orders or bulk purchases.

5. Change sort for Column Profit > Sort Descending: This step involves sorting the Profit
column in descending order. By arranging the data in this manner, the highest profits are
displayed at the top of the dataset, allowing for easier identification of the most profitable
transactions or products.

6. Check the data type for all columns: This entails verifying and ensuring that the data type
assigned to each column is appropriate for its contents. For instance, numerical columns should
be formatted as numbers, date columns should be formatted as dates, and text columns should
be formatted as strings. Ensuring correct data types prevents errors in calculations and
facilitates accurate analysis and visualization of the data.
