Chapter2 Calculating Power Consumption Rev1

This document discusses methods for calculating power consumption in electrical installations. It describes graphing the load over time to determine average real power consumption. The average can be calculated by dividing the total real power by the number of time intervals. Alternatively, utilization factor and nominal power can be used to calculate average real power consumption. Average reactive power is also calculated using utilization factor. Total average power is the square root of the sum of the squares of average real and reactive power. Lighting load is calculated using lighting density, area, and a simultaneity factor.

Calculating Power Consumption

1
Graph of Load
❖Load is quantified by
▪ Active power P (MW)
▪ Reactive power Q (Mvar)
▪ Current I (A)

❖Graph of load is the quantity of load which is varied

Calculating lighting load
❖ In industrial sector, we generally calculate lighting
load factor by taking lighting power cover lighting
into account.
❖ Lighting load Plighting can be calculated by:
Plighting =kd  F
where
kd lighting density (5 ÷20 )
F lighting area (m2)
