Financial stress, academic overload, and stress in general negatively impact students' well-being and academic performance. Studies found that freshmen, students with low financial means, and those with student loan debt experienced more financial stress. Financial counseling helped improve knowledge and attitudes but did not consistently change behaviors. Academic overload decreased mental and physical health, and first-generation college students experienced more stress overload which helped explain their poorer grades and health outcomes. Perceived social support, self-efficacy, financial self-efficacy, and stress management interventions could help mitigate the effects of stress on students.

students more likely to experience financial stress include freshmen, those with

low perceived mastery and net worth, and those with median student loan debt as
compared to those with no student loan debt. Results of t-test analyses suggest that
financial counseling had positive effects on subjective financial knowledge and financial
attitudes and mixed effects on financial behaviors.( Sonya L. et al, 2015)

Financial play an important role in students’ academic performance. Financial

problems are a serious issue that needs to be addressed as it leads to multiple stages of
problems such as health issues and academic performance. Education is a high-cost
social service therefore insufficient financial support will be a problem for students to
enhance themselves in academics thus leading to poor academic performance. This
paper aims to identify the relationship between financial problems and academic
performance faced by public university students in Malaysia. Self-administered
surveys were used to gather data from a total of 120 respondents among public
university students. Data collected were analysed using SPSS in order to obtain
descriptive statistics. From the results, it is ascertained that there is a significant
relationship between financial problems and academic performance of p = 0.014 < a
0.05 indicating that the students with financial problems affect their academic
performance.(Norazlan, 2020)

The impact of financial management reaches all age groups, from children being
supported by their parents’ income to senior citizens living with the repercussions of
their retirement planning decisions (or lack thereof). College-aged students are a
demographic with a unique set of circumstances that make focused studies on this
group meaningful. For many, young adulthood is the time where lifelong habits and
behaviors are formed. Routines and preferences are established, and decisions are
made that will affect the path in life that each person will take. College students,
specifically, are in a time of significant transition.(Widener, 2017)

An analysis of College students’ subjective well-being (SWB) and persistence

behavior was conducted with an emphasis on financial stress and individuals’
perceptions of financial situation, controlling for a number of health, financial, and
demographic factors. Data were taken from a sample of 324 undergraduate students
from a major Midwestern university. Results indicated that students experiencing
higher reported financial stress scored lower on a measure of SWB, and were also
significantly more likely to report difficulty maintaining enrollment or number of
academic hours enrolled. Individuals’ financial self-efficacy was positively associated
with SWB and negatively associated with reductions in enrolled hours, though was
not significant as a predictor of student persistence attitudes. Implications for student
well-being and healthy campus initiatives are discussed.(Robb, 2014)

Stress overload, the pathogenic form of stress identified in both psychological
and medical theories, has been linked to academic failure and illness in college
students. Here, it was found to be more prevalent among first-generation than other
college students and to provide one explanation for their well-documented disparities
in grades and health. Findings imply stress overload should be a primary focus for
assessments and interventions with first-generation college students. (PsycInfo

Stress is a health epidemic of the 21st Century. It can affect anyone at any time,
altering or impairing their general health (WHO). The study utilized the quantitative-
descriptive correlation research design to determine the stress factors among the two
hundred randomly selected nursing students of the University of Bohol, aided by a
self-made questionnaire adopted from the Student Nurse Stress Index (SNSI) .

Academic Overload

This unprejudiced study detected that students are academically overloaded by

information overload and that when the overload decrease, the score of both mental
and physical health will improve significantly. Our findings indicated that the
information overload can create in some of the secondary students a distress thus
transforming into an academic stressor that can negatively impact the students’
Quality of Life (QOL) and consequently impacting their psychological and physical
well-being. These results can be used for revising the curriculum in schools for each
subject course in order to subtract any unnecessary added information in addition to
the alignment of assignments and quizzes by teachers during the week; anything that
can favor the decrease of the academic overload therefore the academic stress and
thus enhancing students’ wellbeing.( Ismail, 2022)

Academic overload is most abused problem of modern education system

which is leading to distaste among students for studies. The present study is a humble
attempt to find academic overload among secondary school students who are
preparing for competitive examination. The sample of the study was 400 secondary
school students who are preparing for engineering, medical and law/management
courses.(Khosla, 2022)

The purpose of this study was two- folds: to investigate whether there are
correlation between and among academic overload, self-efficacy and perceived social
support as predictors of academic adjustment among first year university
students .And to investigate the relative contribution of among academic overload,
self-efficacy and perceived social support to academic adjustment among first year
university students. The study employed the descriptive survey method to describe
academic overload, self-efficacy and perceived social support as predictors of
academic adjustment among first year university students.( Kamel, 2018)

Within the academic field the daily circumstances are found vanished for the
constant pressure that the students are found, ranging from the amount of
responsibilities and the demand level, to mention some. The stress levels of the pupils
are seen considerable altered for this fact, provoking consequences on their academic
productivity. It is considered that the academic results are inside the general answers
by the stress and do not represent a cause of the stress itself. Meaning that the
negative results of the academic performance are the product of the stress conditions
to whom the students are being submitted. ( Orozco,et al, 2017)
