Installation Standard

The document provides guidelines for HVAC&R system installation, including: 1. Duct construction standards for galvanized steel sheet ducting with minimum thickness requirements based on duct size. Ducts must be supported every 1500mm and joints sealed. 2. Requirements for duct fittings, dampers, gauges, collars, and insulation of ducts. 3. Details for refrigerant and drain piping including pipe material, insulation, and pressure charts for copper piping sizing. 4. Brief mentions of communication wire installation, hoisting supports, and branch joint placement.

HVAC&R SYSTEM INSTALLATION STANDARD GUIDE LINE

1 SHEET METAL WORKS

1.1. Ducting Construction
Low pressure ductwork shall be constructed and supported using galvanized
steel sheet, as follows:
Max size mm US Standard Gauge Min thickness mm
Up to 750 24 0.63/65
760 to 1500 22 0.8
Above 1500 20/18 1.0

Ducts shall be supported every 1500 mm. All joints to be sealed with high
pressure duct sealer.

Max size (mm) Transverse joint Bracing Hangers

connection
up to 600 Drive pocket or bar Strap 1.8 mm,
slip on 2000 25 mm
centers wide,
Above 800 Flange joint Strap 2 mm,
40 mm
wide,

All sizes mentioned or shown refer to free unobstructed air passages.

If due to the building structure, changes of sizes or locations of ducts are
deemed necessary, the following shall apply:
i) The changes shall be approved by the consultant.
ii) The equivalent diameter shall be maintained for the new size.
iii) The maximum aspect ratio shall be 5 to 1.
iv) The metal thickness shall be based on the new duct size.

1.2 Duct Sealant:

All duct joints shall be sealed with duct sealant (silicon) and then taped (with Al.
Foil Tape). Sealing compound shall be of a type specifically designed for
ductwork.
1.3Duct Fittings
Changes in direction of ducts shall be made either with elbows sized so that "R"
centre line equals 1 – ½ times the diameter or with prefabricated turning vanes
installed in a sharper 90 degrees "lateral" or "tee" section.
Where possible change of size shall be made with transition fittings using a
maximum 15-degree angle to vertical and horizontal planes through the duct
centre line.
1.4 Dampers and Gauges
All volume control shall position in the ducts and shall be manually operated
type. Gauges shall be provided in the ducts for maintenance purpose.

1.5 Collars for Air Distribution Outlets and Inlets:

Provide collars for all air distribution, inlets and outlet. Provide collars securely
fastened to ductwork with sheet metal screws, clinch connections or other
approved method.

Openings in ductwork for collars shall be field measured and cut to ensure
proper location of air distribution outlets and inlets in finished construction.

Collars shall be fabricated to properly receive air distribution outlet and inlet for
alignment in finished construction and to accommodate dampers, equalizing
deflectors and shall be in accordance with manufacturer’s printed
recommendations.

1.6 Duct Insulation

Thermal insulation of ducting would be closed cell nit rile rubber sheet (Class O)
with one side raped with factory - laminated Aluminum polyester film.
1.7 Refrigerant and drain Pipes:
Refrigerant pipes interconnecting indoor units and outdoor units shall be of
refrigeration quality copper pipes; soft drawn seamless high grade copper pipes.
Refrigerant line shall be covered properly to avoid any mechanical injuries. All
pipe joints shall be properly braced with oxy-acetylene (if required). For the
refrigerant pipes, larger than 19mm diameter hard copper pipe should be used
with elbows wherever required. For the smaller pipes pipe bender, should be
used for bending the pipe.
Indoor units shall be connected to main refrigerant pipe with factory made
branch kit having facility to joint various sizes of pipes as required in each branch
kit. Drain pipe shall be made of CPVC/UPVC covered with closed cell insulation.
Enough slope shall be maintaining to avoid the leakage of condensate drain...
1.8 Pipe Insulation
All refrigerant pipes shall be insulated with closed cell insulation tubes of
respective sizes with at least 13 mm thickness. All piping to be insulated shall be
cleaned thoroughly before applying insulation. Care shall be taken to ensure that
there are no damages to piping insulation. All joints shall be sealed with
adhesive compounds.
Insulation material should be of expanded closed cell electrometric nit rile rubber
material having a thermal conductivity of not more than 0.26 BTU/hr-sq.ft.- F /
inch at 68 F. The density of the material shall not be more than 5 to 8 lb/cu.ft..
Material shall be self-extinguishing and CFC free so as not to emit toxic gases in
case of fire.
