Project 1 - Architect House

This document outlines a semester project for civil engineering students to design an architect's house. It provides objectives for the project, including drawing an organigram to show functional relationships and converting it into a site-integrated architecture plan. Students must choose a specific context of a cliff, beach, or mountain site to design for. Project requirements include a habitable area of 150-180 sqm for a family and workshop space. Students must analyze the site context, draw an organigram, develop dimensional floor plans, and provide plans, elevations and sections for the final deliverables due on January 3rd, 2022.

LEBANESE UNIVERSITY

Faculty of Engineering Semester V - Project 1

Civil Department Year 2021-2022

ARCHITECT House
“I don’t think that architecture is only about shelter…
It should be able to excite you, to calm you, to make you think.”
Zaha Hadid
Iraqi architect

Project Objectives:
- Draw an “Organigramme” showing relation between different functions
- Provide domestic space measures & proportions relative to furniture layout & needs
- To convert the Organigramme into an architecture Plan
- Understand the context, elaborate the concept and shape the content.
- The Project implantation according to Sun, Wind, Orientation, Views…

This project will be dedicated to the design of an architect’s house with a necessary size habitation
for a typical family and his personal workshop on the upper floor.
It should be conceived according to a specific context:
OP1: Cliff OP2: Sea Beach OP3: Mountain
The lower space will be extended on a single level, elevated with 3 steps while the workshop located
on the upper floor will be accessible from a outside staircase.

Project Data:
• Rectangular Plot app.35x29meters – refer to site plan
• Plot area app.1000sqm
• Setback of 4.5m from all sides
• Road and north direction – Refer to site plan
• View Side to be chosen by each student

Phase 1:
Step 1: THE CONTEXT - Site Analysis
Each student will choose a region according to site choice.
Indicate on the plan the constraints and notable advantages of the site: Orientation and Sun,
Shadows, Views, Wind directions, sources of noise, Axes of Circulation, etc.

Step 2: THE ORGANIGRAMME - Functional Organization

Draw a scheme “Organigramme” that represents the different spaces, their proportions and
the approximate area for each space and the relation between them: physical or visual
connection, direct access, passage…
(Habitation Total area to be Min. 150sqm and Max. 180sqm)
Phase 2:
Step 3: The CONTENT
Determine and specify the different spaces
Consequently, the spaces must now be dimensioned:
Each space is studied individually to specify all requirements.
The overall size of the room is defined by placing the necessary furniture, Access, natural
light sources…
Convert the program into a functional schematic Plan

Step 4: IMPLANTATION
Plan to be integrated in the site
To provide a final plan located in the plot in a way to create one entity, without forgetting
the relation between outside and inside.
Rooms’ orientation according to the type of use
Provide natural light and ventilation in all rooms and if possible in wet areas like toilets

Program Requirements:
- Entrance - Kitchen
- Living space - 1 Guest Toilet
- Dining - 2 Bedrooms (Double Bed + 2 single Beds)
- 1 Bathroom - Worshop space
- Staircase

Project Deliverables:
- Site Analysis
- Organigramme (Bubbles + app. Areas + Relation)
- Mass Plan Scale 1/100 (including Outdoor Layout)
- Furnished Ground Floor plan Scale1/50
- 2 Elevations Scale 1/50
- 2 Sections scale 1/50
- Sketches and Rendering

Presentation Date: 3rd of January 2022
