The procedure used to configure the GC depends upon whether you are initially configuring TurboMass
for GC control or are making front panel changes to the GC.
• Initial GC Configuration: Set up the LINK and GC for TurboMass control for the first time.
• Reconfiguring the GC: Make front panel or hardware changes to the GC without changing the
LINK configuration. Reconfiguration is also required if you add an autosampler.
Initial GC Configuration
The following steps summarize the procedure for configuring TurboMass for GC control the first time:
• Display the top level (main) window.
• Select an interface.
• Select Configure from the GC menu.
• Verify the Data Acquisition port.
• Set the LINK Configuration Options.
• Set the GC Configuration Options.
1. In the top-level TurboMass window select “Select Inlet Interface” from the Configure menu.
3. From the GC menu select “Configure” to access the Configuration Editor window.
4. In the Configuration Editor window select “Configure” from the Instrument menu.
Establish Instrument Communication . 31
5. Verify the serial port is set to COM1 (default for this instrument) and click “Query Port for
Type”.
If the system is connected correctly the interface type should be properly displayed.
7. In the LINK Configuration dialog select Port A and select the correct Instrument module
installed.
Once the software verifies the connection the selected instrument will appear as shown below
with a new Configure button and select box. If a mistake is made, click the “Restart” button to
disconnect the GC and clean the LINK port and return to the previous step.
32 . Installation Instructions for TurboMass Software
As noted above it is absolutely necessary that the GC be correctly configured on the Touch-pad
BEFORE configuring the GC in TurboMass v6.1. The GC configuration as shown on the Touch-
pad will be automatically transferred to TurboMass v6.1 so it is unnecessary to manually set any
of these values.
9. To rename the GC to something other than its default name (inst1), enter the new name in the
Name text box.
This name will appear under the name field in the Configuration Editor window.
The LINK Configuration will now indicate the GC is Configured with a large blue check mark.
12. If the GC is not turned on, turn it on now and then click “Yes”. If the GC is connected and turned
on, click “Yes”.
A series of messages will appear describing the instrument connection and configuration. Click
“Yes” on each to update.
34 . Installation Instructions for TurboMass Software
The Configuration Editor window will reappear with the proper configuration of the instrument
shown.
13. To finalize the configuration select “Configure” from the Instrument menu once more.
14. From the GC Configuration window click the “Query Inst for Config” button.
The software will update the settings and once finished a “Configuration updated” message
will be displayed.
Establish Instrument Communication . 35

“Finish” to return to the Configuration Editor.
Uninstall any existing TurboMass, Communiqué, and MATLAB programs using the Programs
