gain deep understanding of the relevant competencies. You can do it!
Let’s Learn
This lesson was designed and written to help you illustrate a circle and the terms related to it.
The concept has been discussed thoroughly and the examples were answered with guided
procedures in answering the given exercises.
After going through this module, you are expected to illustrate a circle and the terms related to
it: radius, diameter, chord, center, arc, chord, central angle, and inscribed angle.
Let’s Try

Let’s Recall
Activity 1: The letters of the words below are jumbled. Figure out what the word is and write
it on the blank line provided.
_____________1. GLANE – it is the figure formed by two rays meeting at a common end
point.
_____________2. NILE MEGSENT – is a part of a line that is bounded by two distinct end
points and contains every point on the line between its endpoints.
_____________3. NOTIP – in geometry it is a location. It has no size, no width, no length and
no depth.
_____________4. NILE – it can be defined as a straight one- dimensional figure that has no
thickness and extends endlessly in both directions.
_____________5. RIONIG – it is the starting point.
Let’s Explore
Activity 2: A. Give the name of the following things.
1. ___________ 4. ___________
2. ___________ 5. ___________
3. ___________

B. Draw a circle using any circular object.
Circle E or ⊙E
A circle is the set of all points equidistant from a fixed point called center. It is a round shaped
figure that has no corners or edges. A circle can be named using its center or in symbol ⊙.
Parts of a Circle
1. A radius is a segment drawn from the center to any point on the circle.
Given circle E,
is a radius.
2. Diameter is a segment whose endpoints are on the circle and it passes through the center
of the circle. The length of the diameter is twice the length of the radius.
Given circle E,
A
is a diameter.
5
4. Chord is a line segment joining two points on the circle. The diameter is the longest chord.
C Given circle E,
is a chord.
A
5. A central angle is an angle whose vertex is at the center of the circle and with two radii as
its sides.
Given circle E,
C ∠BEC is a central angle.
6. An inscribed angle is an angle whose vertex is on the circle and whose sides contain
chords of the circle.
A Given circle E,
C ∠A is an inscribed angle.
