Name: Carloen S. Ladrera Date: March 1, 2024

Course, Year & Section: BSCE – 4C

Problem 1 to 6: Solution:

The position of a particle along a straight line

path is defined by s= ( t 3 −6 t 2−15t +7 ) ft ,

where t is in seconds.

a. Determine the particle’s instantaneous

Velocity when t = 10 seconds.

b. Determine the particle’s acceleration when

t = 10 seconds.

c. Calculate the particle’s displacement when

t = 10 seconds.

d. Determine the particle’s total distance tra-

veled when t = 10 seconds.

e. Calculate the average speed of the particle

when t = 10 seconds.

f. Calculate particle’s average velocity when

t = 10 seconds.
Problem 7:

The wheel of a car has a radius of 0.29m and

it being rotated at 830 revolutions per minute
on a tire-balancing machine. Determine the
speed at which the outer edge of the wheel is
moving.

Solution:
Problem 8 to 11:

A cheetah is crouched 20 m to the east of an

observer’s vehicle. At time t = 0 the cheetah
charges an antelope and begins to run along
a straight line. During the first 2.0 seconds of
the attack, the cheetah’s coordinate x varies
with the time according to the equation below

( )
x=20 m+ 5.0
m 2
s

t.

a. Find the displacement of the cheetah

between the t 1=1.0 s∧t 2=2.0 s

b. Find the average velocity during the

same time interval.

c. Find the instantaneous velocity at time

t 1=1.0 s by taking ∆ t=0.1 s, and then
∆ t=0.01 s, and then ∆ t=0.001 s.

d. Derive the general expression for the

instantaneous velocity as function of
time, and from v x at t 1=1.0 s∧¿
t 2=2.0 s

Solution:
Problem 12 to 15:

Suppose the x-velocity v x of the car at any

time t is given by the equation:

v x =60
m
s ( )
m 2
+ 0.50 3 t
s

a. Find the change in x-velocity of the

car in the time interval between
t 1=1.0 s∧t 2=3.0 s .

b. Find the average x-acceleration in this

time interval.

c. Find the instantaneous acceleration at

time t 1=1.0 s by taking ∆ t=0.1 s, and
then ∆ t=0.01 s, and then ∆ t=0.001 s.

d. Derive the general expression for the

instantaneous x-acceleration as the
function of time, and use it to find the
x- acceleration at t 1=1.0 s∧t 2=3.0 s

Problem 16 to 18:

A motorcyclist heading east through a small

Iowa City accelerates after he passes the sign-
post marking city limits. His acceleration is a
m
constant 40 2 . At time t = 0 he is 5.0 meters
s
m
east of the signpost, moving east at 15 .
s

a. Find his position at time t=2.0 s

b. Find his velocity at time t=2.0 s

c. Where is the motorcyclist when his

m
velocity is 25 .

Solution:
Problem 19 to 21:

A motorist traveling with a constant speed of

m
15 passes a school-crossing corner, where
s
m
the speed limit is 10 . Just as the motor pa-
s
sses, a police officer on a motorcycle stopped
at the corner starts off in pursuit with constant
m
acceleration of 3 2.
s

a. How much time elapses before the officer

catches up with the motorist?

b. What is the officer’s speed at that point?

c. What is the total distance each vehicle

Has travelled at that point?

it moves at a constant speed on a circle that is
parallel to the ground. The path of the airplane
and the guideline lies in the same horizontal
plane because the weight of the plane is being
balanced by the lift generated by its wings. Find
the tension in the 17-meter guideline for a speed
of 19 m/s.

have a maximum radius of 316 meters and are
steeply banked at 31 degrees. Suppose these is
a frictionless turn. At what speed would the cars
have to travel around them in order to remain on
track?

ces a push on his feet equal to his weight on
earth? The radius is 1700 meters.
