This chapter talks about similar studies to the PisoPrint System: An Internet of Things (IoT)Based

Pay-Per-Print Solution for Document Printing Services.

The Internet of Things (IoT) has experienced significant growth in recent years, leading to the
development of numerous socially impactful systems and applications that enhance our quality of life.
Printing services are crucial in places like libraries, internet cafes, and business centres, serving
individuals and organizations. As digital documents grow and on-demand printing rises, there's a need
for a simpler, cheaper solution.

Ratnasri, N. and Sharmilan, T introduces Automated vending machines, designed to dispense an

array of products ranging from snacks and beverages to lottery tickets, serve the purpose of saving time
and minimizing human effort through automation. The emergence of IoT-based machines has introduced
a new level of intelligence to this industry. These advanced systems are characterized by their smart and
computerized functionalities, offering users cashless payment options and the innovative ability to place
orders remotely before even reaching the machine. This integration of IoT technology underscores a
critical shift toward enhancing both the functionality and overall satisfaction of vending machine users,
reflecting a broader trend in the industry towards leveraging technological advancements to optimize
customer experiences.

Pongswatd, S., Smerpitak, K. , Thepmanee, T, developed an innovative approach to coffee

vending machine management, leveraging modern technology to enhance operational and customer
service. Utilizing an Android-based smart phone application, vending machines can now offer real-time
monitoring and control capabilities, allowing remote access to crucial operating conditions and sales
data. This advancement extends to the upgrade of existing machines, such as the BD.24CPM-3 model,
and has coin acceptors that accepts 10-bath coins for transactions. With purchase transactions
automatically recorded via the mobile application, operators gain seamless access to sales data, enabling
informed decision-making and streamlined maintenance scheduling.

Sasikala, G., Kuldipsing R., Sarfaraj H., Aastha S. introduces a coin-operated vending machine
designed to provide drinking water services. It accepts coins of Rs. 1, Rs. 2, and Rs. 5 in any sequence,
utilizing an optical mouse sensor for coin discrimination. The control system is microcontroller-based,
with an LCD display for indicating water quantity. Specifically, it employs the Microcontroller AT89C51,
coin discriminator, and LCD display. The front panel, where the machine model is placed, houses
essential components such as the coin discriminator, LCD.

Gaur, A., Mathuria, D., & Priyadarshini, R. design a reverse vending machine (RVM) to effectively
manage waste by incentivizing recycling. It accepts plastic items and rewards users with coins based on
the weight of the plastic material. Coins are dispensed according to the weight range of the plastic items,
with sensors determining the weight of the items, specifically plastic items, up to a maximum capacity of
1 kg. Additionally, the RVM incorporates coin and bill exchange mechanisms for processing waste
transactions efficiently.

Dijaya, R., Suprayitno, E. A., & Wicaksono, A. developed a system integrates IoT technology,
facilitating connectivity and data exchange between vending machines and a central server. It records
real-time data, encompassing button presses on the vending machine, snack food product quantities,
and cash transactions. Additionally, it supports mobile applications for real-time monitoring of sales,
stock levels, and financial data. The payment method includes bill and coin acceptors, enhancing
convenience for users. Sensors are also utilized to ensure accurate data collection.

Ho, R. C. C. L., Zulkipli, M., & Shaari, M. F. developed the low-cost coin acceptor design
incorporates several key features to facilitate efficient coin processing in vending machines. It includes a
coin introduction chute for accepting coins or tokens, a coin sensing gate equipped with various sensors
for validation, a metal sensor for detecting coin composition, a flipper mechanism actuated by a solenoid
to accept or reject coins, a proximity sensor for counting accepted coins, and a rejection hole for
automatically rejecting coins smaller than 25mm in diameter. These components are integrated with an
Arduino Uno circuit board for control and programming, ensuring seamless operation and reliable
functionality of the coin acceptor system.

Sethuraman, S. C., Mitra, A., Li, K. C., Ghosh, A., Gopinath, M., & Sukhija, N, introduces Loki, a
novel physical lock designed to enhance the security of physical assets. This innovative solution
addresses the growing need for robust protection against theft and tampering. Loki supports remote
device locking and management functionalities, allowing users to secure their assets even in the event of
key loss or theft. This capability enhances the overall security posture of the locking system.
