LEARNING TASKS:
A. Review Previous Lessons/Presenting the New Lesson
Present the lesson objectives:
At the end of the lesson, you are expected to:
A. Detect biases and propaganda devices used by speakers
B. Establishing a purpose of the new lesson ( Motivation)
Play a game called “Hulaan Mo!”
In a strips of papers, list down some tag lines of famous advertisement. Ask one student to pick from the strip of
papers. Then ask the student to rein act the dialogues. Their classmates will gues the products advertisement
based on the dialogues.

Show an example of advertisement to the pupils.

What is the advertisement all about?
Is it interesting and persuasive?

Discuss:
Propaganda-is the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a
cause or a person. It makes use of a collection of devices and tricks intended to influence your thinking.

Bias- a strong feeling for or against something without enough reason; prejudice

Examples
1. :A certain institution doesn’t hire members of LGBT community because of immorality issues.
2. Babysitting is for mothers only.
3. Playing basketball is for men.

ACTIVITY 2- GROUP ACTIVITY


Group the learners into three.
 Distribute the activity sheets.
 Remind the learners about the norms/standards to be followed in doing the activity.
 Read and understand the instructions properly.
 Cooperate with your group.
 Do not disturb the other groups
 Maintain cleanliness in your workplace.
 Seek the guidance of the teacher if needed.
 Minimize your noise

EASY
Group discussion: Discuss in your group the 7 types of Propaganda devices. Share to the class your
discussion through reporting.
7 types of propaganda Devices
1. Testimonial- the use of well-known, respected people to endorse a product or services.
2. Glittering Generalities- the act of referring to words or ideas that evoke a positive emotional response
from an audience. Virtue words are often used.

3. Transfer- the act of relating something or someone we like or respect with a product. Symbols are
constantly used in this propaganda.

4. Plain Folks-the use of everyday people to sell a product or service. Speakers and ads appear to make the
person to be “one of the people”

5. Bandwagon-attempts to persuade the target audience to take a course of action “everyone else is taking”,
“join the crowd”. This technique reinforces people’s natural desire to be on the winning side.

6. Name-calling-the use of names that evoke fear or hatred in the viewer. The name-calling links a person,
or idea to a negative symbol.

7. Card Stacking-the strategy of showing the product’s beat features, telling half-truths, and omitting or lying
about its potential problems.

Recall at least one TV commercial you have heard and analyse what type of propaganda is used.

Role play the TV commercial of Jollibee and tell what propaganda is used.

they choose that technique in their advertisement?
