A Detailed Lesson Plan in English 9 Using 4 A’s

I- OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. Generalize with supporting evidence from a given picture;
b. Appreciate the importance of knowing the validity of the ideas presented in the generalization, and
c. Create a valid generalizations on the given text passages.

B. References: English 9- Module 3, www.googlesearch.com
C. Materials: MS Powerpoint,cartolina,pilot pen, and other instructional materials.

Before you take your seats, kindly pick up
the pieces of paper under your chairs, (Students pick up all the pieces of paper and
arrange your chairs properly and organize arrange their chairs properly)

Before we will start our lesson, let me

This time, we will have an activity. I will just


randomly select 5 students to complete the body
parts of the train to form the two magic words.
And that magic words will be the title of our
lesson for this morning, I will only give you 1
minute to do the task.

Yes exactly! Our lesson for this morning is all
about “ Making Generalizations”

But before moving on to our new lesson this


morning, let us know first the goals we must
achieve as we go on to our lesson.

F. Presentation
I- Activity: Picture Puzzle
Are you ready for our next activity? All: Yes, ma’am.

But before that, I will group you into four groups.


Kindly count-off 1 to 4.

The group 1 will be the group wanderer, group 2


will be the group fighter, group 3 the group
dreamer and finally group 4 will be the catcher
group. And that will be your group throughout the
lesson.

Now, proceed to your group.

Each group will be given an envelope with cut


pictures inside. All you have to do is arrange it and
form to a picture then post it on the board. The
one who will done first will serve as a winner.
Select a representative from the group to present
it and will give a short generalization with
supporting evidence. I will give you 2 minutes to
do the activity.
Time will start now! ( Students start arranging the puzzle with their
group)

picture that you’ve formed? (group 1 presenting)

Next Group 3, what is your generalization about


your picture? (group 3 presenting)

For Group 4, is there any generalization you can

II- Analysis
Now, based on the given activities, what is
generalizations? Yes Ella? Ella: Generalization is a broad statement about a
group of people or things.
Precisely!

Generalization is a broad statement about a


group of people or things. It states something
they have in common. It also deals with what is
true at all times.
Ex.
1. Filipinos belong to Malayan race.
2. The Philippines is the “ Pearl of the Orient
Seas”

Two Kinds of Generalization

1. Valid Generalization
-It is supported by facts.
-It agrees with what you already know about
the topic.
-It uses logic and reasoning.
-It is proven with several examples.

Signal clue words:

typically, many, rarely, few

2. Faulty Generalization
-It is not supported by facts

Signal clue words:


None, all, always, never, everyone, nobody

Another example:

Generalization: Father likes fruits.


Supporting Evidence:
1. Father had banana for breakfast .
2.Father had a slice of papaya, too.
3. Father had an orange, also.
4. Father had a glass of mango juice.

IV. Application
(Activity: Differentiated activities)
This time, we will have our last activity.

Listen carefully for the instruction.


Each group will be given an envelope again that
contains different text passages. All you have to
do is to create a valid generalizations about the
text passages. I will give you 3 minutes to do the
activity.

Group Wanderer

Passage 1- Poverty is observed among many


Filipinos especially those who are living in remote
areas. They are struggling to survive for their basic
needs everyday. Insufficiency of food and
medicine result to their poor health condition..
Many of them have not gone through proper
education.They are far to reach by the modern
technology and whenever they seek help, they
have to walk by foot for many hours just to reach
the city.
Group Fighter
Passage 2- The arrival of the advancement in
technology brings a lot of changes in the lives of
many Filipinos especially to the young generation
nowadays, lack of personal communications
within the family members, disinterest in studies,
sleepless night, and being idle are just some of the
negative effects, however the easiest way of
communication, making the lengthy works shorter
and easier, equipping themselves with the
necessary knowledge from the net are some of
the positive effects of technology to human
beings.

Group Dreamer
Passage 3- Twenty percent of the Filipinos have
allergies. Allergies can range from mildly
annoying to deadly. An allergy is an overreaction
of a person’s immune system to something that is
harmless. Many people are allergic to dust, pollen,
or mold. Some people are allergic to certain kinds
of food, perfume or medicines. An allergy might
cause sneezing,coughing, or a rash. Sometimes, an
allergy is so severe, it can lead to death.

Group Catcher
Passage 4- All birds have wings. But not all birds
can fly. Birds that do not fly are called flightless
birds. The penguin is one example. It uses its
wings to swim underwater. Ostriches and emus
flap their wings when they want to scare an
enemy. Rheas use their wings like rudders when
they are running from an enemy. There is even a
kind of small parrot that climbs trees and then
uses its wings to parachute to the ground.
