CONCEPT
CONCEPT
• .
• Though the mosque as such has undergone
many architectural changes, the building
remains essentially an open space, generally
roofed over, containing a mihrab and a minbar,
with a minaret sometimes attached to it.
• Later it developed distinct characteristics
in the form of buildings and in the
decoration of surfaces with Islamic
calligraphy, arabesques, and geometric
motifs. New architectural elements like
minarets, muqarnas, and multifoil arches
were invented.
• The design included practical style
elements such as heavy supports, narrow
stained-glass windows, circular arches,
and vaulted roofs. These religious
buildings are also characterized by a
central nave and a transept that forms
the shape of a cross.
