1. Motivation
Ask the students to name each picture and check the pictures with
similar ending sounds in each number.

B. During Reading

Read the poem “The Fat Cat” to the pupils.

“The Fat Cat”

I had a cat it was so fat.

He could not even sit on his mat.

He had a hat that did not fit.

He put it on and then it split.


C. After Reading

1. Engagement Activity
Ask the students:
• What do I have?
• Why is it that he could not even sit on his mat?
• What does he have that did not fit to him?
• What happened to his hat, as he put it on (his head)?
• What did you notice about the following words?

2. Skill Development (Group Activity)

Group the class into three and give each group an activity to do:

Group 1 — Listen and sing along with the song “Rain, Rain, Go Away”.
and identify the rhyming words used in the song.
Group 2 — Sing along with the nursery song “Baa Baa Black Sheep”
and answer the following questions:
• What word rhymes with wool?__________
• Dame rhymes with the word ___________.
Group 3 — Read the poem “Ten Little Fingers”. Using strips of paper,
group together the words that have the same ending
sounds.
Words written on strips of paper: fingers, ears, toes, nose,
bright, night

“Ten Little Fingers”

Ten little fingers, ten little toes.

Two little ears and one little nose.

Two little eyes that shine so bright.

And one little mouth, to kiss mother, GOOD
