Colpitts Oscillator Lab Experiment

This document describes an experiment to determine the frequency of oscillations of a Colpitts oscillator circuit. The circuit uses a BC107 transistor along with resistors, capacitors, an inductor, and a potentiometer. The capacitance values of C1 and C2 are varied and the time period is measured using an oscilloscope to calculate the practical frequency. This is then compared to the theoretical frequency calculated using the given formula. Precautions are outlined to ensure accurate measurements and results.

PROCEDURE:

1. The connections are made as shown in the figure.

2. By varying C1 and C2 values, calculate the time period of the
waveform observed in the CRO.
3. Convert the time period noted into frequency.
4. If necessary, adjust the potentiometer to get an exact sinusoidal
waveform.
5. Theoretical frequency is calculated using the formula and
tabulated.

CALCULATIONS:

1. Practical frequency, F = 1/T

2. Theoretical frequency, f  where Ceq 
2 LCeq C1  C 2
PRECAUTIONS:

1. The circuit connections should be tight.

2. The value of current knob of RPS should be maximum position.
3. Readings from the CRO are to be taken without error.

RESULT:

The frequency of oscillations of Colpitts Oscillator is obtained
