Session Outline Session "Empathy in Focus: Seeing Through Others' Eyes" Title: Session At the end of the session, learners will be able to: Objectives: a. understand empathy and recognize emotions requiring empathetic responses; b. grasp the significance of empathy in building relationships. c. actively engage in empathy-building activities, reflecting on personal experiences Key Empathy is the ability to comprehend and share the feelings Concepts: of others, forming a crucial aspect of human connection. Recognizing and responding to various emotions and situations with empathy is fundamental for fostering positive relationships and social interactions. Empathy plays a significant role in building strong, supportive relationships by facilitating understanding and connection between individuals. The impact of empathetic actions extends beyond the immediate interaction, influencing both the giver and receiver in profound ways within a relationship. Active participation in empathy-building activities is essential for learners to internalize and apply empathy as a critical social skill in their daily lives. Empathy is generally described as the ability to take on another's perspective, to understand, feel and possibly share and respond to their experience. III. Teaching Strategies Components Duration Activities and Procedures A Activity: Visualizing Empathy M 1. Sing an Action Song “ Be Kind and Compassionate” ( Play the video) A. Introductio 2. Introduce the topic: Empathy (Write on 10 mins n and Warm- the board EMPATHY) Up Empathy is generally described as the ability to take on another's perspective, to understand, feel and possibly share and respond to their experience. Activity: Charades Materials: Cards with emotions and situations Group the class into 4 ( first row will be group 1 & 2 and second row will be group 3 &4) Show the picture and the class guesses. ( Give reward to the group that tell the correct emotion first) Picture 1- compassion B. Concept Picture 2- love 15 mins Exploration Picture 3- kindness Picture 4- caring for others Reflect on portrayed emotions. Discuss challenges and insights gained .What have you learned about the portrayed emotions? >Summarize key points. The key aspects of empathy are compassion, love, kindness, and caring for others. (Note on the board) C. Valuing 20 mins Activity: Watch and Feel 1.Play the Video “ The Good Samaritan” 2.After watching the Video ,Ask, "What happened in the story? How did you feel? 3. Who is an example of showing compassion or cared for others in the story? ( The Samaritan) 4.Share experiences related to empathy in the context of the story. You can also call students to share their experience. 5..Stress the importance of empathy in building relationships and creating supportive communities a. Having empathy enable us to build those social connections. To feel connected to others is hugely important for our optimal wellbeing. It is the very basis of human relationships and helps us to feel valued, loved and cared for. b.Empathy makes you feel fully alive, fully present , as you meet others with understanding and compassion. c.Empathy allows us to deepen our relationship as we connect with friends’ and loved ones’ thoughts and feelings, and connect with yours. Empathy can extend to people you don’t know as well. For example you see someone sitting alone at a party, you might emphasize with their loneliness by talking and be a friend to him or her. d.Empathy helps us to communicate our ideas in a way that makes sense to others, and it helps us understand others when they communicate with us.
6.Conclusion: How to practice empathy in
daily life: 1.Become curious about people you don”t know. Empathetic people are people who are curious about those around them 2.Focus on similarities rather than difference 3.Put youself in someone’s shoes 4.Listen but also share 5.Connect with social action movements 6.Get creative with it.
