Starting Guide
This document explains the setup procedure using the EASY mode of the GC Configurator.
When using EASY mode, which can dramatically reduce the time spent setting and starting
up the safety controller, the user is able to easily build a safety circuit by simply selecting
an application.

Safety Precautions
It is necessary to reduce risks during the design and development processes of machine safety in order to create a safe
machine. This document explains safety control circuits, which are implemented as a part of the protective measures in the
machine safety design process. Conduct a risk assessment before starting the design of a safety control circuit.

Chapter 1 GC Series Overview and Features
Overview
The GC Series is a safety controller designed for intuitive use and high level safety performance.
The GC Series offers two main controllers: the GC-1000 which can be extended using the expansion units and remote I/O modules and also features
Ethernet communication functionality, and the GC-1000R which is equipped with a built-in safety relay output. The GC-1000 supports up to 212 safety
inputs and 46 safety outputs with one main controller, allowing flexible building of a system according to the scale of the machine.
Additionally, complex safety controls can be developed by combining a variety of function blocks according to the desired application when using the
dedicated software, GC Configurator.
This section introduces the basic system configuration for using the GC-1000 safety controller.

Test output
Test output is a function that detects wiring problems and failures of input devices connected to the safety input by outputting 24 V with a fixed-
interval test pulse from the test output terminal. This is used when connecting a contact type output device.

From [Unit monitor], you can monitor the ON/OFF status of each unit
terminal as well as the statuses of KEYENCE safety sensors that are
GC-Link connected.
I/O monitor
This monitor allows you to monitor GS monitor
the ON/OFF status of each unit terminal. This monitor allows you to monitor the door
open/closed status and lock status of each GL-R monitor
GS Series unit connected with GC-Link. This monitor allows you to monitor the received
light intensity, unit configuration information, and
error information of the GL-R Series units
connected with GC-Link.
23
Extra 1 Maintenance Function
The maintenance function can temporarily disable a signal from a safety input device when specific conditions are met. This means that during
system maintenance you can, for example, use an operating mode for running the system at low speed or that permits inching motion upon
temporarily canceling the inputs from safety light curtains and safety door sensors. Switching to maintenance mode will temporarily cancel the
signals from the safety input devices pre-registered to be canceled for maintenance. After maintenance is finished, use the mode switch to switch to
Normal mode for standard operation.
When using the maintenance function, conduct a thorough risk assessment in maintenance mode and implement additional safeguards as
needed.
24
3 Select the input devices to disable.
When an input device is selected to be disabled, the right edge of the input block
changes to an indication that shows that it is disabled.
In the example above, the GS00 safety door sensor and GLR00 safety light curtain are selected to be
disabled. In Normal mode, when the GS00 or GLR00 turns off, the safety output turns off to stop the
system. However, in Maintenance mode, even if the GS00 or GLR00 is OFF, the system can continue to
run while the enabling device is ON. After selecting the input devices to disable, click [Go to selection
mode] again to confirm the setup.
To ensure safety, do not disable any emergency stop function (e.g. emergency stop switch or rope switch).
25
Extra 2 Simulation Function
The GC Configurator is equipped with a simulation function that allows you to check the operation of the created program before transmitting it to the
GC controller.
The statuses and display colors of the input devices, function block, and output device are as follows:
Input devices
Function block

Click this button to run and pause the continuous scanning for simulation.
26
2 To switch the operation status, click the input device.
According to the machine’s operating procedure, check whether the program runs as intended.

1. Turn OFF the door sensor (GS00) that is disabled with the
maintenance function. (Supposing that the door was opened for
maintenance)
Devices that are disabled are indicated by a mark on the right side of their respective input blocks.
28
Extra 3 History Function
The GC Series records the states before and after a change to the function block or signal status of an I/O device occurs.
The GC Configurator can be used to quickly identify the cause in case of a problem.
Cause
The GC Series is equipped with two types of history functions: Fulltime history, which is stored in the volatile memory, and Event history,
which is stored in the non-volatile memory where the history remains even after the GC Series unit’s power has been turned off.
1. T
he states before and after the S-OUT block turned OFF are recorded when the S-OUT block remains OFF for 90 consecutive
seconds.
2. The states before and after the timing when the event history trigger function block* is executed are recorded.
* The event history trigger function block cannot be used in EASY mode. For details, see the GC Series User’s Manual.
