Physics

Magnetism is the property of magnetic materials to attract towards a magnet. Magnetic materials include iron, nickel and cobalt which can be magnetized. Non-magnetic materials like brass, aluminum, copper, silver and gold are not attracted to magnets and cannot be magnetized. A magnet has two poles - a North pole and a South pole. The magnetic field is the region around a magnet where a magnetic material experiences a force towards the magnet. Magnetic field lines can be observed using a compass needle and indicate the strength and direction of the magnetic field.
