commodities, that are relevant for the automobile industry. The commodities includes; Iron & Steel,
Non-Ferrous Metals, Polymers and Rubber. It also contains information on international prices of
crude petroleum, banking & lending rates, foreign exchange rates and policy related developments.

This endeavor is aimed at providing compilation of the price movement of the key commodities for
information and reference for Automobile industry and not meant for influencing commercial
transactions.

This compilation shall not in any way constitute a recommendation by SIAM or its employees for
executing any commercial transaction. The readers of this compilation should make their own careful

B. Prices in January 2024 were about 6% lower than last year, 2% lower than the previous month, and nearly 10% lower than the peak witnessed in March 23.
C. HR Steel is composed of various elements, such as 0.2% carbon, 0.5% silicon, 1.6% manganese, 0.045% phosphorus, and 0.045% sulfur, with iron making up the majority
at 97.61%. Ferro silicon prices fell by 13.33% (Vs 21.14% last year), and ferro manganese prices have fallen by 9.27%(Vs -5.76% last year).
D. The construction sector consumes 48% of HR Steel. The performance of this sector is reflected by a 9.17% surge in cement production compared to 10.71% last year, and
a 6% rise in earthmoving equipment sales last month. The automotive sector consumes 9% of HR steel. Latest data of two-wheeler production rose by 5.66% (vs.13.3% last
year), three-wheelers grew by 18.6% (vs.14.9% last year), and passenger vehicle production fell by 9.27% (vs. 23% last year). The oil and gas sectors together consume 6%
of HR steel. The oil index fell by 0.27% from last year’s -1.35%, while the natural gas index increased by 5.56% from 0.91% last year.

risen by -7.8%(Vs 16.72 last year) and manganese prices have fallen by 9.27%(Vs -5.76% last year).
D. The recent performance of various sectors consuming CR steel is as follows - chemical production fell by 15.03% (vs. -6.91% last year), while shipbuilding
dropped by -12.58% (vs. 76.3% last year). Paper and fertilizer production increased by 6.23% (vs. 9.65% last year).

B. Prices in January 2024 were about 5% lower than last year, 1% higher than the previous month, and 8% lower than the peak witnessed in April 2023.
C. The major inputs of alloy steel 20MnCr5 are manganese and chromium metals. Ferro chromium prices have fallen by 1.76%(Vs 6.71 last year), Ferro manganese
prices have fallen by 9.27%(Vs -5.76% last year).
D. Alloy steel is primarily used for pistons, boxes, spindles, gears, and camshafts. Gears production fell by 0.3% same as last year, Year-to-date, two-wheeler production
rose by 5.66% (vs.13.31% last year), three-wheelers grew by 18.64% (vs.14.93% last year), and passenger vehicle production fell by 9.27% (vs.23.5% last year).

C. The major inputs of alloy steel EN-8 are silicon and carbon. Carbon prices rose 1% this month, while silicon prices decreased 11%.
D. EN8 alloy steel primarily serves in axles, shafts, threads, and studs. Recent figures reveal a remarkable 78.16% rise in axle production.

B. Prices in January 2024 were about 6% lower than last year, 2% higher than the previous month and about 9% lower than the peak witnessed in Feb 2023.
C. The major inputs of pig iron are Iron ore and coking coal, iron ore prices have fallen by 1% and coking coal prices increased by 1% in recent months.
D. Pig iron production in January fell by 1.7% compared to December 2023, to 261 thousand tons. Steel production for the month increased by 3% m/m - to
235.5 thousand tons.

C. Major consuming industries of stainless steel are, Infrastructure and construction goods increased by 11.13% vs 7.73% last year. The manufacturing index
increased by 5.80% vs 5.16% last year, kitchen appliances decreased by 25.82% vs 38.01% last year.
D. As per the latest data, India's steel production surged to 128.15 million metric tons, with a year-on-year growth of 12.1%. Japan's output declined to 80.02
million metric tons, down by 2.8% compared to the previous year. The USA produced 73.87 million metric tons, showing a slight decrease of 0.5% year-on-year.
Meanwhile, Russia's production reached 70.20 million metric tons, marking a significant 6.4% year-on-year increase.

pig iron prices rose by 2% this month.
D. The construction sector consumes 48% of HR Steel. The performance of this sector is reflected by a 9.17% surge in cement production compared to 10.71%
last year, Domestic appliances consumed 9% of HR Steel, its production fell by 31.33% vs (18.18% last year), industrial applications consumed 25%, its
production fell by 2.79% vs 65.29% last year.

C. India’s coal production reached 99.73 million tons, an increase of 10.86% from 89.96 million tons in the same period last year, and an increase of 7.33%
from 92.92 million tons in the previous month. India’s total coal production has been 784 million tons, an increase of 12.18% from 699 million tons in the
same period last year. Among them, the output of Coal India was 610 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 4.07%.
D. India’s total coal sales were 87.37 million tons, an increase of 6.52% from 82.02 million tons in the same period last year. India supplied 72.18 million tons
of coal to the power industry, an increase of 5.68% from 68.3 million tons in the same period last year.

C. Iron ore production grew by 8.1% to 4.54 million tonnes (MT) in January 2024 as against 4.20 MT in January 2023. Iron ore sales in the month of January 2024

A. In January 2024, Virgin Aluminum’s price on average was $2,194.20 a tonne.
B. Prices in January 2024 were about 12% lower than last year, 1% higher than the previous month and 12% lower than the peak witnessed in last 12 months.
C. Automotive production uses 21% of aluminium. Latest data of two-wheeler production rose by 5.66% (vs.13.3% last year), three-wheelers grew by 18.6%
(vs.14.9% last year), and passenger vehicle production fell by 9.27% (vs. 23% last year).
D. China produced 3.59 million tons of aluminium, up 4.9% from a year earlier, The world's biggest aluminium producer churned out 41.59 million metric tons of
primary aluminium last year. However, the annual growth rate of 3.7% marked the third consecutive year of slowing, total annual production capacity of 44.43
million tons by the end of 2023. Output in 2023 grew modestly as capacity neared a government-imposed ceiling, and was affected by power shortages.

A. In January 2024, Copper price on average was $8,344.30 a tonne.
B. Prices in January 2024 were 7% lower than last year and 1% lower than last month, 7% lower than the peak witnessed in last 12 months.
C. During FY ’23 copper imports and exports were recorded as 0.18 MT and 0.03 MT, respectively. Due to increasing demand and a shortage in supply, copper
imports have soared 184% YoY to 0.22 MT in H1, FY’24, as compared to H1FY23.
D. India’s consumption of refined copper has scaled up drastically from 0.43 MT in FY18 to 0.7 MT in FY23. Conversely, the production plummeted from 0.77 MT
in FY18 to 0.55 MT in FY23. The Government of India’s emphasis on infrastructure development and the gradual transition towards renewable energy could
further push the domestic refined copper demand growth to about 11% in FY24-25.

C. Sales of lead acid batteries consume 80% of lead and 9% of lead compounds. The production of lead (ingots/ bars/ blocks and plates) grew by 28.48% Vs(3.88% last
year).
D. As per the latest available data India exported lead acid batteries to UAE (3.31$Mn), Nigeria(6.32$Mn), Germany(3.86$Mn), Turkey (0.47$Mn), Jordan(0.98$Mn).
In contrast India’s imports were - China(4.76$Mn), Vietnam(4.25$Mn), Poland(0.17$Mn), Germany(0.30$Mn), Sri lanka (0.38$Mn).

C. Nationwide Refined Nickel Production recovered in December, with a 6% Month-on-Month Increase compared to November. In January 2024, the
nationwide refined nickel production totalled 25,300 tons, representing a month-on-month increase of approximately 3.27% and a year-on-year
increase of 54.27%.
D. Stainless steel consumes 69% of nickel. Flat products of stainless steel production grew by 11.69% Vs(-7.29 last year), 13% storage batteries. Storage
batteries(Lead/Acid) production dropped by 0.82%(Vs -2.86 last year).

alloys grew by 16.02% Vs(5.1% last year).
D. Quarterly mined metal production rose 8% sequentially and 7% YoY due to enhanced ore production and grades, while refined metal production saw a modest 1%
YoY increase, with integrated zinc production declining 4%.

A. RBI continued to hold Repo rates at 6.50% from February. Yields on 3-month maturity treasury bills are at 6.97% in January 2024. In the long-term interest
rates, yields on 1-year maturity AAA corporate bonds moved from 7.83% to 7.86%. The weighted average bank rate remained constant at 6.75%.
B. Interest rate tightening across the globe appears to be further slowing in January. Out of the 39 major central banks that are tracked, 2 central banks raised
interest rates compared to 3 last month. However, the average rate hike was 62bp compared to 131bp in December. This was due to a 140bp rise in Turkey, a
30bp rise in Russia, and 10bp in Norway. BP stands for Basis Points 1/100th or 1%.

B. Dry bulk Index in November 2023 was about 96% higher than last year, 30% lower than the previous month, and 30% lower than the peaks witnessed in the last 12 months.
C. The overall index, which factors in rates for capesize, panamax and supramax shipping vessels, lost 147 points, or 7.3%, to 1,875, The capesize index dropped by 350 points,
or 9.7%, to 3,249, also logging its biggest daily fall since Dec. 7. Average daily earnings for capesize vessels, which typically transports 150,000-tonne cargoes such as iron ore
and coal, decreased $2,910 to $26,941.
D.The Panamax index fell 71 points, or 4.4%, to a two-month low of 1,534, for its eighth straight session of declines. Average daily earnings for Panamax vessels, which usually
carry about 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain cargo, slipped by $639 to $13,810.Among smaller vessels, the supramax index was down for the 19th consecutive session. It
fell 32 points to 1,162.

• SIAM holds all copyrights of its published materials which are distributed through printed products, electronic media, PDF data, Excel data, etc.
• SIAM reserves all rights of authors and specifies sources quoted in its publications to protect the rights of authors of pre-existing work.
• SIAM receives permission of the authors, media associations, and others when necessary, or may pay to make legal contracts with them.
• SIAM provides or sells its publications to those who agree to comply with the following guidelines in order to protect copyrights of its own and other authors.
1. Terms used in SIAM Copyright Guidelines are defined as follows:
• Same company unit means a single registered commercial head office, same location, and same management unit, so that subsidiaries, associated companies, group companies, and overseas companies shall not
be included.
• Same department means the minimum unit of department which has an annual budget and settlement of accounts arranged within the same corporation.
• Organization means this limited branch of an organization. Affiliated organizations and corporations etc. are excluded.
• For library, data hall, or school users, free perusal within reasonable bounds is permissible. However, please note that photocopying or any other means of reproduction is not permitted at the above facilities.
2. The purchaser and their company may use SIAM research resources in the following manner:
• The purchaser may read and pass around resources within limited private reason in the same company. • Libraries may freely offer resources for reading only within certain restrictions.
• Within same company, it is permissible to quote, reproduce, cite, however, it must be credited every time when used, as "Source: Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers" or Copyright SIAM.
• Use of Excel data and PDF data to create new databases according to individual need is permitted within "same company." There may be no fee charged for the information and it must be noted with a copyright
mark.
• Within libraries it is permissible to process, arrange, classify, retrieve, and display purchased materials.
• Digital version of monthly reports (PDF file) can be browsed only by readers approved by SIAM.
3. Forbidden practices: It is forbidden to use SIAM research resources (including all pages of printed matters and digital resources printed out by subscribers), in whole or in part in the following cases without prior
permission granted from SIAM. This restriction applies to but is not limited to third party as well as "Same Company."
• Photocopying research resources directly and passing to a third party. For libraries, please be advised that free library use does not include the copy of materials and passing to a third party.
• To quote, reproduce, or otherwise adapt anywhere except within "same company."
• To give or transfer PDF data or Excel data etc. to a third party, or posting on the Internet or company intranet.
• To process all or some of the data, print all or some of the data or the processed data, or post any data on the Internet or company intranet with the intention of providing the data to a third party.
• Use of the ID and password by anyone other- than a registered user at the same department or to forward the ID and password to a third party.
• To translate to another language and give to a third party.
• To convert data into an electronic format by scanning or otherwise and give to a third party.
• To directly or indirectly sell some or all the research data published by SIAM to a third party.
• SIAM digital resources are forbidden to be sold to a library or/and other party which intends to make resources available to a third party.
• Any other action or area except mentioned in article 2.
4. Warning and Termination:
• When it becomes clear that these guidelines have been violated and the customer has misused SIAM copyrighted material, the customer will be warned to cease and desist, and further, the offending company
and department name will be noted on SIAM’s website.
• If the company disregards the warnings and does not cease and desist the offending activity within the warning period, SIAM will refuse services to the offending company.
• In the event that SIAM or other copyright holder’s right have been violated, a claim for damages will be made also precaution under Copyright Act will be initiated.
5. Guideline changes: These guidelines may be changed from time to time.
