Collaborative Computing
It is an interactive multimedia conferencing application that enables multiple
parties to collaborate on textual and graphic documents.
Today, collaborative computing not only bridges geographical distances to
enable remote individuals to work together, it adds capabilities that enhance
the working experience.
Collaborative computing can connect individuals to software applications in
real time, so they all can access and simultaneously work on text-based
documents, graphics, computer-aided design files and other work products.
Through special software, each party to the call can contribute to such
documents, working together with the other parties.
Collaborative Computing
During such a collaborative session, the original text document is saved, while
each party contributes changes that are identifiable as such, by contributor.
When the parties agree to the collaborative edits and enhancements, the
entire text file is refreshed and saved.
Similarly, a design or a concept can be developed graphically and on a
collaborative basis through whiteboarding, much as the parties would do on a
physical whiteboard in a face-to-face meeting.
Collaborative computing arose from early generations of single stand-alone
applications, such as instant messaging and video conferencing, that were
intended to bridge geographic distances between individuals who working
together.
Collaborative Computing
Few commonly used collaborative computing applications are:
Zoom
Google Hangout
Google meet
Google drive
Lotus Notes
Microsoft office 365
Microsoft Live meeting
Microsoft Windows Live etc.
Collaborative Computing
Advantage
Collaborative computing technologies can work across various operating systems
and devices, allowing individual workers to participate in work sessions from
various locations with different equipment.
Limitation
Collaborative computing relies on robust underlying IT infrastructure, such as a
strong networking capacity that can distribute, update and store real-time video,
voice and data traffic coming from numerous locations.
