Search Engine
 Search engines are the special websites that provide facility to internet users
to search information on the internet.
 It allow user to enter keywords about the data or information you want to
search on internet.
 Search engine searches the required information and sends the addresses or
links of related web pages to your computer.
 The search engine keep the record of website addresses along with the
important words of description for each web page.
 Google is one of the most popular and well known search engine.
 Other search engines are Ask.com, yahoo, bing etc.
Collaborative Computing
 It is an interactive multimedia conferencing application that enables multiple
parties to collaborate on textual and graphic documents.
 Today, collaborative computing not only bridges geographical distances to
enable remote individuals to work together, it adds capabilities that enhance
the working experience.
 Collaborative computing can connect individuals to software applications in
real time, so they all can access and simultaneously work on text-based
documents, graphics, computer-aided design files and other work products.
 Through special software, each party to the call can contribute to such
documents, working together with the other parties.
Collaborative Computing
 During such a collaborative session, the original text document is saved, while
each party contributes changes that are identifiable as such, by contributor.
 When the parties agree to the collaborative edits and enhancements, the
entire text file is refreshed and saved.
 Similarly, a design or a concept can be developed graphically and on a
collaborative basis through whiteboarding, much as the parties would do on a
physical whiteboard in a face-to-face meeting.
 Collaborative computing arose from early generations of single stand-alone
applications, such as instant messaging and video conferencing, that were
intended to bridge geographic distances between individuals who working
together.

 Zoom
 Google Hangout
 Google meet
 Google drive
 Lotus Notes
 Microsoft office 365
 Microsoft Live meeting
 Microsoft Windows Live etc.

 Advantage
 Collaborative computing technologies can work across various operating systems
and devices, allowing individual workers to participate in work sessions from
various locations with different equipment.
 Limitation
 Collaborative computing relies on robust underlying IT infrastructure, such as a
strong networking capacity that can distribute, update and store real-time video,
voice and data traffic coming from numerous locations.
Social Networks
 Social networking is an internet based social media websites and applications
which focus on communication, community-based input, interaction, content-
sharing and collaboration.
 Forums, microblogging, social networking, social bookmarking, social
curation, and wikis are among the different types of social media.
 Many individuals will use social networks to stay in touch and interact with
friends and family, while others use it to communicate with different
communities.
 Many businesses will use social media as a way to market and promote their
products.
Types of Social Networks
 Facebook
 It is a popular free social networking website that allows registered users to create profiles,
upload photos and video, send messages and keep in touch with friends, family and colleagues.
 Twitter
 It is a free microblogging service that allows registered members to broadcast short posts
called tweets.
 Twitter members can broadcast tweets and follow other users' tweets by using multiple
platforms and devices.
 Wikipedia
 It is a free, open content online encyclopedia created through the collaborative effort of a
community of users known as Wikipedians.
 Anyone registered on the site can create an article for publication; however, registration is not
required to edit articles.
 Wikipedia was founded in January of 2001.
Types of Social Networks
 LinkedIn
 It is a social networking site designed specifically for the business community.
 The goal of the site is to allow registered members to establish and document
networks of people they know and trust professionally.
 Pinterest
 It is a social curation website for sharing and categorizing images found online.
 Pinterest requires brief descriptions, but the main focus of the site is visual.
 Clicking on an image will take a user to the original source.
 For example, clicking on a picture of a pair of shoes might redirect users to a
purchasing site and an image of blueberry pancakes might redirect to the recipe.

 Networking without border
 Enables everyone to connect no matter which country they belong to.
 Instant News and Information
 Before the social media era, we used to communicate on email and instant
messengers like Yahoo, AOL, and MSN.
 All those IMs and communication tools were mostly one to one communication.
 But on Social networking sites, communication can be one-to-many instantly.
Advantages Social Networking
 Great marketing channel for Business
 Great opportunity for small businesses
 Promotion and advertisement of the products is easy and without spending money on social
media platform.
 Easy to get customer feedback and customer requirement.
 Awareness and Activism
 Social networking sites played a very important role in revolutions and events around the
world.
 Almost all internet users do use at least one social media platform.
 It is easy to spread the message and invite many people to take part in events for
awareness and activism.

Document sharing.
 One can create a group and start to share ideas and information for a specific purpose.

like a contact book.
 Social networks provide platform to stay in touch with friends and family.
