7 CLEARANCES FOR SAFE ACCESS AND CONDUCTOR SPACINGS

This section sets out the minimum clearances required for safe access to a.c. switchyards,
and also includes the minimum conductor spacing requirements for new a.c. switchyards.

7.1 Fundamental design requirement for safety

Designs must ensure that competent personnel can carry out operating and maintenance
procedures without inadvertently encroaching within the danger zone.
The danger zone is defined by the minimum phase to earth clearance (N) to live
conductors.
