3.15. Super-yacht paint system acceptance criteria
Whether the buyer shall choose the relevant option, the following shall apply.
1 General
1.1 The painted surfaces of the vessel shall be divided into two areas of Importance:
HVA: High Visibility Area
Transom and exterior bulwarks of the main deck, all inner surfaces of the main deck and all the
deckhouse including furniture etc.
Smaller coating appearance defects such as described above, may be accepted in LVA depending
on size, nature and location. A local area with small defects shall never be more than 2% of the
overall surface of that area.
The top coat shall have a uniform appearance with little or no difference in texture and the top
coat shall give a clear reflection of images.
2.2 Coatings sags and runs
Major sags and runs are not acceptable.
Small sags and runs may be accepted by the owner depending on size and location.
3 Fairness
The fairness of filler coats shall be of a high standard.
Final layer prior to primer application must be closed and free of pinholes or other cavities.
4 Dry film thickness (dft)
All applied coatings shall comply with the dry film thickness (DFT) as specified in the applicable
paint specification.

5 Dust inclusions
HVA Surfaces
Max. 5 particles per sq.dm with a max size of 150 µm on a maximum of 2% of the local
surface. Isolated particles are acceptable provided that they do not affect the overall aesthetic
appearance.
LVA Surfaces
Max. 8 particles per sq.dm with a max size of 250 µm on a maximum of 2% of the local
surface. Isolated particles are acceptable provided that they do not affect the overall aesthetic
appearance.
6 Colour matching
There shall be no visible difference between sections of the yacht painted with same shade of
paint. An assessment using instruments may be required in the event of a dispute. The acceptable
range of AE CIELAB shall be +/- 0.5 for light colours and 0.9 for dark colours.
7 Gloss
All Gloss Unit value measurements are to be in accordance with the following limits:
Vertical surfaces: Minimum gloss level of 88 GU average.
No reading shall be below 85 units.
Horizontal surfaces: Minimum gloss level of 88 GU average.
No reading shall be below 83 units.
8 Orange peel
Finish coat to be applied with little difference in texture between and shall give a clear reflection
of image.

3.16. Noise and vibrations acceptance criteria
Whether the buyer shall choose the sound insulation option, the following shall apply.
The Shipyard shall assign a consultant of its choice, to assure the noise and vibration levels of the yacht
are below the acceptable levels. Noise prediction analysis on both structure-borne and airborne noise
propagation as well as acoustic insulation of the structure and interior and resilient mounting of mechanical
systems and interior will be carried out.

The noise levels shall not exceed the following values; in dB (A), according to the measurement method
and the conditions specified below.
- Wheelhouse 45
- Salon - Galley 45
Noise levels at harbor condition in dB(A)

- Wheelhouse 60
- Salon - Galley 60
Noise levels for free sailing at cruising speed in dB(A)
- Guest cabins 55

Measurement conditions
Noise and vibration analysis studies must be performed at the cruising speed and at anchor operational
conditions as specified below:

At harbour Condition:
The noise level measurements must be carried out by the Shipyard in accordance with the procedures of
ISO 14509, (“Small craft measurement of airborne sound emitted by powered recreational craft”). The
Buyer shall have the right to apply his own expert for carrying out independent noise measurements.
Vibration levels
The maximum value of the vertical velocity vibration levels, over the frequency spectrum from 5Hz to
100Hz, should not exceed the following values (mm/second).
- Wheelhouse 1.5

Vibration measurements shall be conducted as according to ISO 6954 at the operational conditions above
defined. The Buyer shall have the right to apply his own expert for carrying out independent vibrations
measurements.
