Program Set
Litt leSEED is put together in eight sets of materials. The breakdown of components is shown
below:
Program Components
Each set of materials consists of a variety of components, including Action Activities, Big
Books, Character Ditties (very short songs) and Stories, Songs, and Vocabulary Picture Cards.
• Action Activities (AA) are songs that teaching commands, action verbs, and prepositions
through rhythm and motion.
• Big Books (BB) are illustrated, large-print books with music that focus on 16 of the most
frequent sounds of multi-letter phonograms.
• Classroom Character Ditties (Ditty) are very short songs that include interesting repetition for
each character from Jonny Bear’s Classroom.
• Classroom Character Stories (Story) are the primary components by which children learn
natural inflection and expression through listening. As the child becomes familiar with the story,
they will begin to join in. The LittleSEED stories emphasize the 32 most-used phonogram
sounds in spoken English.
• Songs are a fun way to learn vocabulary and language expressions while using gestures.
Singing is a powerful tool to help students move learning to long-term memory.
• Vocabulary Picture Cards (VPCs) contain core vocabulary words that can be clearly represented
through pictures. They help children isolate words within sentences and improve their ability to
understand those words and better comprehend the stories.
• DVDs & Songbooks are entertaining audio-visual and printed materials that provide repeated
exposure and practice opportunities for students to watch, listen, and follow along with both in
the classroom and at home. If you choose to use the DVD as part of a lesson:
• Show one or two components—approximately 5 minutes of content— at either the
beginning or end of a lesson.
• Make sure to rotate through the components on the DVD to provide equal exposure.
• Encourage the students to interact with the DVD as it plays (e.g., sing along, dance).

Method
A Multi-Modal Approach
LittleSEED’s method of instruction allows students to experience the same content in different
ways.
instruction—visual/ kinesthetic/ social/verbal/ aural
This multi-modal approach is key to the success of LittleSEED
Teacher-Student Interaction (TSI)
Teacher-Student-Teacher-Student (T-S-T-S) Pattern , the teacher models the word, phrase, or
activity first. Students then repeat the word, phrase, or activity, followed by the teacher modeling
a second time. Students then repeat the word, phrase, or activity once more.
Student-Teacher-Student (S-T-S) Pattern In the Student-Teacher-Student (S-T-S) pattern, the
teacher allows students to say the word or phrase first, followed by the teacher modeling
correctly what was said, and finally having the students say it once more

Classroom Structure
8 set
Every component be covered at least 10 times
With Set 1, it is recommended that classes start with a 10-minute lesson the first week and add
five minutes each week to eventually progress to 25 to 30 minutes of instructional time.
The minimum number of days spent on each set is 15; however, Set 1 will need at least 25
Establishing an English Environment - English-only environment
When students start thinking in English, they won’t have to translate words or phrases from their
native language into English. Eliminating this double-step process develops students’ ability to
think in English, which then enhances their English oral language skills.
Student Pronunciation
Please keep in mind that three-year-old children have limited ability when it comes to correct
pronunciation of all sounds. Expect them to mimic, but do not require perfect pronunciation.
If a sound is consistently mispronounced by many of the students, stop the activity to model the
sound two or three times. Allow the children to mimic the sound and then move on.
Student Repeated Exposure and Practice
LittleSEED provides a DVD and Songbook to allow for additional exposure and practice
The supplemental tools are designed for use at home.
After modeling use of the book in the classroom several times, the teacher may send the DVD
and Songbook home with students.
The Student Practice tools include:
• Songbook
• DVD
