COURSE SYLLABUS

1. Course Number EDUC 604/MAEDAS 602

2. Course Title Research Methods

3. Course Description This course deals with the study of the various types and methods of research used in education, social sciences, health
care management, health financing, health care behavior, economics, business, governance, and related fields. It focuses
on understanding and application of the research process that includes problem identification and definition, reviewing
related literature, formulation of objectives and hypotheses, theoretical and conceptual framework, identification and
operationalization of study variables, selection and application of appropriate research designs, sampling techniques, data
collection, data processing, data analysis and interpretation and report writing.

At the end of the course, graduate students will be able to:

and critical thinking in problem solving and decision-making;
2. Identify, and describe possible researchable problems that affect human lives and their possible causes and
effects;
3. Explain and demonstrate the different research types/methods and the processes involved in their conduct, from
problem identification and definition, objectives, hypotheses, conceptual framework formulation, sampling, data
collection, data analysis and interpretation, proposal preparation and report writing;
4. Write and defend a research proposal on a relevant topic/problem ;
