Concept Notes:
Microsoft PowerPoint is a presentation software that ca be used to design slide
presentations. The students can present researched data in numerous interesting ways. The term
slide refers to the old slide projector, which this software effectively replaces. The terms MS
PowerPoint and PowerPoint may be used interchangeably in reference to Microsoft PowerPoint.

When we select Blank Presentation, we will be directed to our first slide

Slide Views Zoom Options
1. The Quick Access toolbar in the left can be customized to include the commands that we want to
add.
2. The Home Ribbon in located below the Title bar. The commands that we need are grouped
together so that we can easily find the tools when we need them.
3. The Slide area is where we create our slides.
4. The Slide tab shows us all the slide we have in our presentation.
5. The Notes section is where we can put notes on each slide.
PowerPoint Views
There are four different views in PowerPoint. Each view is used for a different step in creating our
PowerPoint Presentation.
1. Normal – This view is use when creating and designing slides.
2. Slide Sorter – This view is good when organizing slides. We use it when we want to delete,
copy, paste, or move our slides.
3. Reading View – This view allows us to read our presentation in full view. The Ribbon and the
Slide tab are hidden from view.
4. Slide show – The Slide show allows us to practice our presentation, Microsoft PowerPoint
utilizes the entire screen so that we can see how our presentation looks when presented to an
audience.

Slide Presentation Creation
Open PowerPoint and select Blank Presentation. The default presentation layout when we
start a new presentation is the Title Slide layout.
To do this we:
1. Open PowerPoint, Select Blank Presentation
2. Start a new presentation using the default presentation layout called Title Slide Layout.
To add title in our slide, we:
1. Select Click to add title to activate the main title placeholder.
2. Type My First Slide.
To add subtitle in our slide, we:
1. Select the lower placeholder Click to add subtitle.
2. Type your name.
We just created our first slide.
To add another slide, we:
1. Go to Ribbon, and look for the icon New Slide.
2. Select the drop-down triangle to see what other office themes are available.
3. Select Title and Content.
The slide theme will already tell us how the slide will look like. These will serve as our
template. Let us add content to Slide 2. To do this, we:
1. Select Click add title to activate the placeholder
2. Type our complete names.
3. Select Click to add text placeholder.
Notice the bunch of icons in the middle of the placeholder.
4. Select Pictures.
Slide Object Modification
To change some items in Slide 1, we:
1. Go to Slide 1 by selecting Slide 1 in the slide tab.
2. Select the Main Title. Our main title is the text that says My First Slide.
3. Select the entire Title My First Slide, and change the font type to ALGERIAN and the font size
to 72.
The entire presentation now occupied the entire screen. When the presentation is projected
on screen, it will display the slides we created without the handles. To go to the next slides, we
can:
1. Click the mouse.
2. Press the space bar, or
3. Press the right arrow key.

Working with Table
A table is used to display information into rows and columns. It can store data and in a
structured format.
The Insert Table dialog box allows us to add or remove rows or columns manually. By
default, there are five columns and two rows. Modifying the tables can be done anytime by
selecting the tables.
To create a table, we:
1. Use the Title and Content layout as a slide.
2. Select the Insert Table icon in the Click to add text section.
3. Modify the number of rows and columns using the Insert Table dialog box, then
select OK.
Working with Charts
Charts are graphical presentations of data gathered. The most common type of chart are
the column, line, and pie.
A column chart displays the information using vertical bars.
A line chart is very similar to a column chart. It connects data points using a straight line.
A pie chart or circle chart give as visual concept of wholeness.
To insert charts, we:
1. Open a Blank Presentation then choose the Title and Content layout.
2. Select the Insert Chart icon to display the chart type available.
3. Select OK to display the design view of the chosen chart.
4. Modify the contents of the data grid.
Exercise:
Draw lines to match the items in column A with the items in column B.

1. Make a table for your grades in Math, Science, Arts, and Music.

Concept Notes:
A slide transition is a visual motion on a slide that is seen during a presentation. If there is
no transition applied, the next slide simply replaces the previous slide.
PowerPoint gives us a preview of our slides when we have a transition applied. A small star
appears beside the slide in the slide tab when a transition effect is added. It disappears if we select
None.
To add transitions, we:
1. Go to the Transitions tab on the Ribbon
2. Select an object from the slide.
3. Select a transition from the Transitions tab.
These are the first ten (10) transition options that PowerPoint shows:
1. None Has no transition effect.
2. Cut is very similar to None transition as it simply shows the next slide.
3. Fade makes the slide slowly disappear.
4. Push moves the slide up.
5. Wipe makes the slide slowly disappear to the left.
6. Split cuts the slide in half and moves the parts to the left and right.
7. Reveal shows the next slide.
8. Random Bars puts horizontal bars in the slide and changes to the next slide.
9. Shape lets the next slide appear from the center of the shape.
10. Uncover moves the current slide to the left to show the next slide.

Animations are the movements of objects inside a slide.
Entrances and exits are the common types of animation effects. These are the animation
effects available in PowerPoint.
1. None makes no animation effect.
2. Appear makes the object come in sight.
3. Fade makes the object fade into the slide.
4. Fly in makes the object fly from the bottom of the slide and into position.
5. Float in makes the object surface into position.
6. Split makes the object split into the slide.
7. Wipe makes the object wipe inside the slide.
8. Shape makes the object to fade into place.
Exercise
Identify the animation effects.
