Good practices when we work with our computers:
1. Organize the environment

Taking care of our computers:
1. Keep workplace computer friendly.
2. Keep computer cool, clean, and dry.
3. Keep computer away from direct heat or sunlight or from place where it can get wet.
4. Make sure hands are clean before using the machine.
5. Keep food and drinks away from the computer.
6. Do not touch the screen.
7. Do not place anything on top of computers.
8. Plug in accessories or devices in their proper slot.
9. Press the keys gently.
10. Clean computer regularly with a soft and dry cloth.
11. Cover computer when not in use to protect it from dust and dirt.

Computer Laboratory Rules
1. Eating and drinking are not allowed inside the laboratory at any time.
2. Fall in line before entering the computer laboratory. Keep quiet and listen to the instruction
before going inside.
3. Walk quietly to assigned seat and be seated.
Do not touch anything until the teacher tells to do so.
4. Listen to teacher’s instructions at all times.
5. Work quietly. Others are also working.
6. Raise hand if help is needed.
7. Use only the programs that teacher tells to use. Do not open programs that are not needed.
8. Be gentle with the computer. Do not touch the screen. Do not hit the keys with excessive force.
Use the mouse gently.
9. When saving work, use the correct file name. Ask the teacher on what file name to use.
10. Before leaving the computer lab, make sure that the workplace is clean. Leave the lab in the
same condition as it was before.

Windows 10 is a series of personal computer operating systems developed and released by
Microsoft.
Below are the parts of Windows 10 Desktop:
1. Icons are small images on the desktop that serve as shortcuts for programs, folders, or files.
2. Wallpaper is the background area of the desktop.
3. Start button is found on the bottom left corner of the desktop that is located on the taskbar.
4. Cortana is used to find programs, folders or files in our computers easily by just typing a
keyword.
5. Quick Launch bar provides a quick and easy way to start a program with just a single click.
6. Taskbar is the long horizontal rectangular bar located at the bottom most part of the desktop. It
allows for easy access and quick switching in between programs.
7. System tray is also known as the Notification area. This contains the icons for the battery, sound
volume control, available network list, anti-virus software, and date and time.
Exercise:
A. On the line, write the part of the desktop described in the sentence.

moved to the folders that we created. We can also save the apps that we use in the folders we
created.
By doing these steps, we can create a folder on the desktop:
1. Using the mouse, right-click any part of the desktop. We might need to minimize some windows
to see our desktop.
2. Hover the mouse on the word New found in the menu.
3. Select Folder from the menu. A folder icon will appear on the desktop.
4. Right-click the folder icon and select Rename. Type a name for the folder and press Enter.

Another way of organizing or managing our files is by creating subfolders. We can create a
folder named School, and inside this folder will be the different subjects where we can save our
work. This will help us look for the files that we need.
To create subfolders:
1. Open the My-New-Folder folder we created previously.
2. Right-click the folder, and create a new folder.
3. Name the folders as the subjects we have in school.
4. If we want to rename a folder, simply right-click the folder, hover on the Rename option, and
click. We can then type the new folder name.
5. If we want to delete a folder, select the folder then press the Delete key. This will delete the
folder we selected.

2. Rename it as NewFolderMain.
3. Create a folder inside NewFolderMain.
4. Rename it as NewFolderSub.

want our files to be organized.
Another way of organizing or managing our files is by creating subfolders. We can create a
folder named School, and inside this folder will be the different subjects where we can save our
work. This will help us look for the files that we need.
