I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of: Southeast Asian literature as mirror to a shared
heritage; coping strategies in processing textual information; strategies in examining
features of a listening and viewing material; structural analysis of words and propaganda
techniques; and grammatical signals for opinion- making, persuasion, and emphasis.
B. Performance Standards The learner transfers learning by composing and delivering a persuasive speech based on an
informative essay featuring use of properly acknowledged information sources, grammatical
signals for opinion-making , persuasion, and emphasis, and appropriate prosodic features,
stance,and behavior

Objectives
At the end of the lesson, should be able to:
a. identify modal in a sentence;
b. reflect on the importance of using modals correctly through oral recitation;
and
c. create sentences using modals.

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing the previous Ask the students about their knowledge of the previous discussion. Here are some of the

B. Establishing a purpose for GROUP ACTIVITY: MODALS TREASURE HUNT
the lesson. Instruction: In teams of four, a designated representative from each group will search the
classroom for hidden words. Each team member must locate a word concealed within the
room. Once the representative finds a word, they will return to their group with it. Once they
have found a word, they will qualify to advance to the next challenge in which each team

will receive a set of scrambled words on pieces of paper. These words form a complete
sentence when arranged correctly. The task for the students is to unscramble the words and
reconstruct the sentence.

Here are the following words to hunt:


might, shall, must, can

GROUP 01: I might be tired tomorrow.


GROUP 02: Shall we dance?
GROUP 03: They must go to work today.
GROUP 04: Can I go to my friend’s house?

C. Presenting Present the two sentences, allow the students to read them and pose questions.

D. Discussing new concepts

verbs. Modals are auxiliary verbs that express ability, necessity, request, permission, advice,
desire, probability, etc.

E. Discussing new concepts Modal verbs (or modals) have the following features in common:

c. Modals do not exceed auxiliaries. They take direct negative and question forms.
