Test STA116 JAN2021

This document contains a 6 question test on probability and statistics with 45 total marks. Question 1 has 5 marks and involves constructing a probability distribution for a random variable X representing the number of faulty transistors out of 8 total, with 2 known to be faulty, after randomly selecting 3 transistors without replacement. Question 2 has parts a) and b) worth 3 and 8 marks respectively involving probability and variance calculations for a discrete random variable. Question 3 involves probability density function integration for a continuous random variable. Questions 4-6 involve probability calculations related to air conditioner lifetimes, dengue fever incidence, and newspaper delivery times.

An electronic device has 8 transistors. Two of the transistors are found to be faulty. Three
transistors were chosen randomly, one by one without replacement. Let X is the random
variable representing the number of faulty transistors. Construct the probability
distribution for X.
