Common Mistakes
Mispronouncing the individual vowel sounds:

Learners may struggle with producing the correct

individual vowel sounds that make up the
diphthong, leading to incorrect pronunciation of
the whole diphthong.
Over-emphasizing one part of the diphthong:

Some learners may focus too much on one part

of the diphthong, resulting in an imbalance in
the pronunciation.
Incorrect placement of stress:

Misplacing stress in words containing

diphthongs can alter the pronunciation and
meaning of words.
Confusing similar diphthongs:

Learners may confuse diphthongs that sound

similar but have different vowel combinations,
leading to incorrect pronunciation.
Tips for Improving
Diphthongs
Listen and imitate:
Listen carefully to native speakers or
recordings and try to imitate their
pronunciation of diphthongs.
Pay attention to the smooth transition
between the two vowel sounds.
Practice individual sounds:

Practice producing the individual vowel sounds

that make up diphthongs separately. Focus on
getting each vowel sound correct before
combining them into a diphthong.
Record and listen:

Record yourself pronouncing diphthongs and

listen to the recordings. Pay attention to any
mistakes or inconsistencies and work on
correcting them.
LASTLY, PRACTICE!
