I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students with at least 75% proficiency level should be able to;
a. Define the trapezoid
b. Illustrate the formula of trapezoid

III. Procedures
A. Activity

1. Daily Routine
a. Prayer
b. Checking of Attendance
c. Classroom rules:

• Please be on time
• Remain quiet and listen carefully
• Raise your hand if you want to answer
• Respect each other and be polite
• No phone during class hour, not unless you have the permission

d. Checking of Assignment

2. Preliminary Activity
a. Drill/Review
1. What are the previous theorem that we discuss?
2. In rhombus CORN, If diagonal ON is 15, what is the measure of CR?

3. In rhombus CORN, if the measure of angle O = 30°, what is the m∠= 1 and m∠=2

b. Motivation

“Guess the Picture”

Mechanics:
• RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU WANT TO ANSWER
• GUESS THE WORD HIDDEN IN THE GIVEN PICTURE
• STUDENT WHO GOT THE CORRECT ANSWER WILL EARN 1 CHIPS
• ONLY 10 SECONDS TO ANSWER

B. Analysis

1. After playing the gibberish activity, what word did you come up with?
- Median, Angle, Supplementary, Intersect and Trapezoid
2. What is Trapezoid?
- A trapezoid is a quadrilateral with at least one pair of parallel sides.

C. Abstraction
There are two types of Trapezoid
BAGUMBAYAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

• The bases of trapezoid are two parallel sides.

• The legs of a trapezoid are the two non-parallel sides

Midsegment Theorem

Theorem 6.
- The median of trapezoid is parallel to each base and its length is one half the sum of the
lengths of the bases.

Formula:
𝟏
𝑴𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒂𝒏 = (𝒃 + 𝒃𝟐 )
𝟐 𝟏

What is the median or Midsegment?

- The median of a trapezoid is a segment joining the midpoints of the legs of the
trapezoid.

Legs are ̅̅̅̅ ̅̅̅̅

𝐴𝐷 and 𝐵𝐶
Midpoints are M and N, when two midpoints are connected it will be called as midsegment
or median (MN)

Example:
1. If CO = 15 and ER = 25, what is LT?
Using the formula of Median, we
have;
𝟏
𝑳𝑻 = (𝒃𝟏 + 𝒃𝟐 )
𝟐
𝟏
𝑳𝑻 = (𝟏𝟓 + 𝟐𝟓)
𝟐
𝟏
𝑳𝑻 = (𝟒𝟎)
𝟐
𝑳𝑻 = 𝟐𝟎

Example 2:

If HI = x + 5, AT = 12, and LE = 20, What is the value of x? What is HI?

𝟏
𝑯𝑰 = (𝒃 + 𝒃𝟐 )
𝟐 𝟏
𝟏
𝒙 + 𝟓 = (𝟏𝟐 + 𝟐𝟎)
𝟐
𝟏
𝒙 + 𝟓 = (𝟑𝟐)
𝟐
𝒙 + 𝟓 = 𝟏𝟔
𝒙 = 𝟏𝟔 − 𝟓
𝒙 = 𝟏𝟏

Let’s solve for HI;

𝑯𝑰 = 𝒙 + 𝟓
𝑯𝑰 = 𝟏𝟏 + 𝟓
𝑯𝑰 = 𝟏𝟔

What is Isosceles Trapezoid?

- Is a trapezoid with congruent legs

Theorem 7.
The base angles of an isosceles trapezoid are congruent

Theorem 8.
Opposite of an isosceles trapezoid are supplementary

Theorem 9.
The diagonals of an isosceles trapezoid are congruent

Example 1:

1. If m ∠O = 100°, what is the measure of ∠V

m∠=100°

2. What is the m∠E?

m∠= 80°

Example 2:

1. If SQ is 20 and QA is 10, what is the measure

of diagonal MT?
- MT = 30

What is the difference between Trapezoid and Isosceles Trapezoid?

Trapezoid is only has 1 parallel sides, while isosceles legs are congruent

D. Application
Solve the following:

1. Find the Measure of ∠L, ∠O and ∠T

2. If TR is 16 and OR is 14, what is the measure of LS?

1. If IM is 18, and EH is 22. Find the measure

of MR and CE.
