Head of School
Dear Families,
Message
The spirit of Christmas is very much alive at TPSA, as we enter the final week of this term. Throughout my
teaching career, friends and family often comment “it’s near the end of term, you must be dialling things
down…” which is so far from reality. This week has seen:
• Year 11 students fundraising for their 2024 Prom with a bake sale
• A group of Year 9 students taking part in the final stages of the “F1 in Schools” competition
• A Senior Citizens Christmas Party hosted by students, for local residents
• Our Head Students took part in the Luton 2040 conference on making Luton a fairer and more sustainable
town.

Next week we have…

• Rewards assemblies for all year groups
• Christmas Lunch on Tuesday 19th December
• Year 11 Parents Evening on Tuesday 19th December
• Non-School Uniform Day on Thursday 21st December

The Academy has issued a significant number of food vouchers to many of our families – we also distribute
food fortnightly through our partnership with ‘Go Dharmic!’. If there are any families that need additional
support, let us know and we will do what we can to help.

A huge thank you to families who completed the survey that went out recently. I am proud of the work we do at
TSPA – this includes quality teaching in the classroom, caring pastoral support and an inclusive environment.
A comment that some parents raised was regarding communication – we do send out regular newsletters,
emails and text messages (in addition to hosting parents and information evenings). You can also speak to us
directly – you will see us in the morning and after school at the front gates, and you can contact the pastoral
team using the contact details here: https://stockwoodpark.thesharedlearningtrust.org.uk/year-
teams/69543.html

Finally, a number of students have been asking me about Culture Day – Friday
19th January 2024 is the date you need to note in your diary/calendar!

Thank you for your continued support,

Year 7 Mr Poole

Dear Parents/Carers,

It has been another fantastic two weeks for our year 7 students. Many year 7’s
participated in the fantastic pantomime, it was a real pleasure to see so many
enthusiastic budding actors and actresses. It was also nice to see so many parents
and visitors coming into school to celebrate the successes of our young people.

Furthermore, as we continue to drive up the importance of attendance in school, I am

so proud to showcase our amazing attendance at Stockwood Park. Well done to all
students, you are doing the right thing and making us all proud.

Finally, it has been two weeks since we announced the kindness postcards, we have
been inundated with 100’s of kindness cards to students and staff. Thank you. What
we don’t see is other people’s battles and this has really shone a light brightly on the
wonderfulness of our students here at Stockwood Park. Next week we have our
celebration assembly, our first celebration assembly. I look forward to posting
pictures onto the schools social media accounts next week.

Dear Parents,
Year 9 Mr Baker

It has been a trip heavy fortnight, with over 90 of our

Year 9 students attending trips across four different
days!

Our first trip saw our F1 in Schools group head to

Birmingham, namely Aston University. The boys have
been through a lengthy design process, and finally got
to see their car design come to life! The car was then
tested on a state-of-the-art track, as shown in the photo.
The boys competitive streak came out when reaction
times were tested, all ready for the regional finals. I will
be sure to update you in our next edition with how they
get on in Harlow!

Our next trip saw students head down to the University

of Bedfordshire for a series of Aim Higher days.
Students got a first hand insight of what student life is
like around the university and took part in activities to
test how prepared they would be for their next steps in
education, if they so choose. In the photo you can see
one group explaining what their dream university would
look like and what it would include… Adrijus felt the best
way to navigate around the university was via
Lamborghini!

Both trips were received exceptionally well, by both

students and the organising staff. The behaviour from
the students was exemplary and made me proud to be
their Head of Year.

I would like to finish off with news that many parents

and students have been asking for, Options Evening!
This year we are merging our Options Evening with our
standard Parents Evening, this will be held on Tuesday
16th January. More information will follow regarding
this, but I will note that this is one of the most important
evenings of our students TSPA lives so far.

As this is the last newsletter before we break up, I hope

you all have a wonderful holiday break. I will be looking
forward to welcoming you all in to the new year!
Year 10 Mr Emery

Reflecting on a Compassionate Year: Year 10 at The Stockwood Park Academy

As the year draws to a close, it's the perfect time to reflect on the incredible journey we've had in
Year 10 at The Stockwood Park Academy. These last few weeks have been particularly
enlightening as we delved into essential topics through assemblies that focused on compassion
and anti-bullying strategies.
Promoting Compassion: A Core Value at Stockwood Park
Compassion is a core value that we hold close to our hearts at The Stockwood Park Academy. Our
recent assembly held by Miss Musara and Miss Robinson, served as a reminder to each student
that kindness, understanding, and empathy create a school environment where everyone can
thrive. We've seen the positive impact of compassionate actions, both big and small, throughout
the year. Let's carry this spirit of compassion with us into the new year and beyond.
Anti-Bullying Strategies: Building a Safe and Inclusive Community
In our commitment to creating a safe and inclusive community, we dedicated another assembly to
anti-bullying strategies. Mr Kelly discussed the importance of standing up against bullying,
supporting one another, and fostering a culture where every student feels valued. Remember, it's
our collective responsibility to create an environment where everyone can learn and grow without
fear.
Emerald Ticket Week: Celebrating Efforts and Hard Work
One of the highlights of our academic year has been the celebration of student efforts during
Emerald Ticket Week. This initiative ensures that hard work does not go unnoticed.
Important Reminder: Work Experience Paperwork Deadline
We would like to remind all Year 10 students that the final deadline for completed work experience
paperwork is Thursday, 21st December. This valuable opportunity allows you to explore potential
career paths, gain real-world experience, and develop essential skills for the future. Make sure to
submit your paperwork on time to make the most of this enriching experience.
Wishing you all a lovely Christmas, New Years and a restful break. We look forward to welcoming
you back in the new year, ready for the exciting challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
Kind Regards

Mr C Emery
Year 11 Miss Crow
Hello and welcome to the year 11 newsletter, I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to read
about the most recent happenings with the year group.

Parents Evening
Year 11 Parents’ Evening, Tuesday 19th December 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Reminder that we have Year 11 Parents Evening next Tuesday. Parents/Carers are able to book
appointments on Arbor, if you are having any trouble booking appointments please do contact the
year team via email or phone.

This will be Year 11’s final parents evening at Stockwood Park Academy and attending this event will
be crucial to us and your child’s future achievements in this final year as students prepare for their
GCSE exams.

At this event students will be given their reports following the mock examinations, you will have the
opportunity to meet with your child’s subject teachers and you will be able to find out what support is
available to help students with preparations for exams.

Radio Hosts

You may remember a couple of weeks ago I wrote to tell you that a group of students had the
fantastic opportunity to complete a Radio Hosts workshop.

On Tuesday guests from AUK radio came into school to work with these students and were able to
complete a follow up workshop where the groups were tasked with presenting, producing and using
radio equipment to record a 15-minute podcast on a topic of their choice.

Students had a great time exploring using the equipment and recorded some great podcase
segments. The guests provided such great feedback on how engaged and enthusiastic students were
during the session.

Well done to everyone that took part!

Maths Speed revision

Last Wednesday 40 Year 11 students attended a 3-hour Math’s Speed Revision session afterschool.
We had some great feedback on the evening from both students and staff, and overall students
attitude to learning was good.
So a massive well done to everyone that attended!!

One student asked me if we will be hosting the same kind of revision evenings for other subjects…
Absolutely we will!
We are looking forward to hosting excellence sessions afterschool next term in the run up to the
second set of mock exams
Year 11 Miss Crow
Cake Sale

Year 11 students supported in hosting a cake sale on Wednesday to raise funds for the Year 11 prom.
The cake sale proved to be very popular and everything sold out before the end of break.

Reminder that Prom is on the 11th July 2024 and tickets are available to purchase on Arbor.

Stockwood Park Sixth form students have had another eventful fortnight with
visitors/events/fund raising and trips taking place. Students have worked really
hard over the last 8 weeks and I am sure we are all now looking forward to a well-
earned break for the festive period but not before our Christmas Celebration and
End of term Rewards Assembly and Christmas Dinner taking place on
Wednesday,20th December. I will share photos and other details from the event in
our next newsletter. Here are some highlights for last few days.

Sixth form Parents Evening

We welcomed parents/carers of our sixth form a Parent Teacher Consultation
Evening this week. The evening was organised at our campus at Chalk Hills
Academy. Parents/Carers and teachers got an opportunity to discuss the progress
of students with subject teachers. We also had the presence of our attendance
officer and the Careers department colleague to advise as appropriate.
BTEC Business students Fundraising event.
Our students from the Level 3 BTEC business group organised an event as part of
their course. The event was very successful. Not only the students surpassed the
fundraising target but also helped a worthy cause for charity. Many thanks for the
Business department for being the guiding force behind the event.
Student Council Bake Sale for Support for Children Charity
A group of our Student Council members along with some members of the yr11
Student leadership organised a bake sale. The proceeds were donated to Support
for Children charity. Once again, students exceeded their fundraising targets. It
was pleasing to see how students planned, prepared and organised this event with
hardly any help from teaching staff. A very successful event.
Sixth Form Diploma Launch
The Sixth Form Team launched the new TSLT Sixth Form Diploma this week with a
visit from Careers expert Dale Willis. The Sixth Form Diploma is a unique and
central feature of a Shared Learning Trust Sixth Form education, giving expression
to our belief in an all-round education. Taken alongside their core academic and
vocational studies, the Diploma provides a focus for students’ personal
development, helping them to develop the personal skills necessary to live a
fulfilling and successful life.
Dale Willis spoke to the students around developing their personal brand, using
social media, online learning and volunteering opportunities. For example, here are
some recommended links to the types of courses that motivated students can
access to add to their CV or university personal statement.
Vice Principal Ian Sudbery stated “in twenty years of leading sixth forms in
Schools, Dale was the most informative and exciting speaker I have ever seen. He
was full of such key messages for Year 12 and Year 13 students to take their
university and job search to another level.

Cinderella Pantomime

The year 8 trip to Milton Keynes to see

Cinderella Pantomime.
It was a huge success, both students and staff had a
great time.
Students asked if we could have more visits to the
theatre they enjoyed it that much.
Students represented the academy well and were on
their best behaviour.
PE January to Easter
After Christmas activities will change in both key stage 3 and 4 for PE and will follow the spring term
curriculum of sports and extracurricular activities.
Firstly, please be reminded that several of the activities take place outside so wearing additional black
under layers underneath the Stockwood Park logo PE kit would be useful to keep students warm during
these PE lessons.
From January, girls and boys will be taking part in Football so it is recommended that all students have
shin pads to protect them during football lessons.

All students will rotate around these activities during the Spring term.
We will continue to offer a range of activities before school, at lunch time and after school and
please look out for the clubs list in January which will commence from the 15th of January.
We will be offering and entering local leagues for both Girls and Boys Football. Additional clubs
available to all students will be fitness club in the gym, badminton and table tennis. Clubs are
open to all and it would be great to see as many students come along and take part.
Well done to all of the students that represented the school in the many school teams and sports
events over the last term in what has been a very successful start to the sporting year,
particularly in Netball.
Anti-Bullying Update
Dear Parent/Carer,

At TPSA, we are dedicated to creating an environment where every student feels safe, respected, and
valued. We do not tolerate bullying in any form and are committed to addressing it swiftly and
effectively.

As part of this ongoing commitment, I delivered assemblies to students in YR7-11 on anti-bullying.

The primary objective of each assembly was to educate and empower our young people. We believe it
is crucial for our students to understand what bullying is, recognise its various forms, and know how
to respond effectively if they witness or experience it.

Below are some of the key messages that were shared with students - it would greatly appreciated if
you could spend some time reiterating these at home.

1. How is bullying defined at TSPA?

At TSPA, bullying is defined as: “The repetitive, intentional hurting of one person or group by another
person or group, where the relationship involves an imbalance of power. It can happen face to face or
online.”

2. What are the different types of bullying?

3. Where can I report bullying?

Bullying can be reported to ANY member of staff. Please ensure that your child has a trusted adult who
they are comfortable in disclosing this type of information to. This could be their form tutor, subject
teacher, an LSA or Behaviour Mentor, their Head of Year / Assistant Head of Year or myself.

Should you wish to raise a concern about your child, or if you have any questions regarding our
approach to anti-bullying, please do not hesitate to get touch. You can contact me directly at:
[email protected]

Thank you for your continued support.

RSHCE Update
Dear Parent/Carer,

In our ever-evolving digital world, ensuring the online safety of our students is more critical than ever. As part of
our commitment to the well-being of our school community, we would like to share some valuable insights and
advice on how you can help ensure your child's safety in the online environment.

Understanding Online Risks

The internet, while a fantastic resource for learning and social connection, also poses various risks such as
exposure to inappropriate content, cyberbullying, and potential online predators. It's essential to be aware of these
risks to effectively safeguard our children.

Tips for Ensuring Online Safety

1. Open Communication: Foster an environment where your child feels comfortable discussing their online
experiences. Regular, non-judgmental conversations can be invaluable.

2. Educate About Online Behaviour: Teach your child about the importance of keeping personal information
private, the implications of sharing photos or information online, and how to recognise and report inappropriate
content.

3. Set Boundaries and Rules: Establish clear guidelines for internet use, including time limits, appropriate websites,
and online activities.

4. Use Parental Controls: Utilise available tools and software to monitor and limit what your child can access
online.

5. Be a Good Role Model: Practice safe and responsible online behaviour yourself. Children often mimic the
actions of the adults in their lives.

6. Stay Informed: Keep up-to-date with the latest trends in social media, apps, and online games. This knowledge
can be crucial in understanding your child's online world.

Attendance Update
Attendance Update
‘Every Lesson Counts’

As we prepare to break for the Christmas Holidays we would like to take this
opportunity to say thank you for all you do, as parents, especially supporting us by
ensuring your children attend school on time every day.

Please try to get some rest over the holiday (as parents ourselves we understand
this can be difficult!) and ensure your child is also rested and ready to learn when
we return on Tuesday 9th January, remember being in school is important to your
child’s achievement, well-being, and wider development.

Recently, we ran some data and it was clear that students who are achieving or
exceeding their potential academically have no more than 5 days off in a school
year. So, please do all you can to maximise your child’s time in school by helping
them to attend on time, every day.

Finally, we would love to talk to you as parents about what we can do to support you
with your child’s attendance, with this in mind we would like to welcome you to a
parent coffee morning where we will discuss how we can support each other to
maximise student attendance. More information will follow about this event but foe
now please save the date:
Event = Parent coffee morning
Focus = Student Attendance
Data = Thursday 18th January
Time = 9:30 am to 10:15 am
