ADET - Lesson 3

The document provides an overview of artificial intelligence (AI), including its history, definitions, levels, types, applications, disciplines/techniques. It discusses how AI attempts to make computers act intelligently like humans. AI is defined in four categories based on whether systems think, act, think rationally, or act rationally like humans. The levels of AI range from narrow to general to super intelligence. The types include reactive machines, limited memory systems, theory of mind, and self-aware machines. Applications of AI and reasons for its development are also covered.

Artificial Intelligence
The part of computer science that attempts to make computers act like human beings. But AI
is no widely accepted definitions. Therefore all AI definitions are groups into four categories:

01 02 03 04
System that think like human. Systems that act like human. System that think rationally. System that act rationally
Example: Cognitive Modeling Example: Turing's Test Example: Deep Blue Example: Robots

TYPES OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

BASED ON CAPABILITIES:

Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI): Systems designed

for one specific task and whose capabilities are not
easily transferable to other systems

Artificial General Intelligence (AGI): Machines with

human-level or higher intelligence capable of abstracting
concepts from limited experience and transferring
knowledge between domains.

Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI): This is where

machines become self-aware and surpass the capacity of
human intelligence and ability.
TYPES OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

BASED ON FUNCTIONALITIES:

Reactive machines: Very limited capability that just

produces an output based on input. No memory and no
learning.

Limited memory: Machines that are capable of learning

from historical data and make better predictions. Most
current applications fall into this category.

Theory of Mind: Machines that begin to interact with the

thoughts and emotions of humans. This is at a conceptual
stage and work in progress as we speak.

Self-aware: The final stage of AI that has evolved to be

human-like with independent intelligence. We are far
from this.
