UNIT 8: BECOMING INDEPENDENT


Allotted time: 3 periods (from 81 to 83)
Period 83 : Looking Back

I. Objectives
By the end of this lesson, Ss will be able to obtain all the target knowledge,
competency and personal qualities in the following areas.
1. Language and Skills:
- Comprehend the vocabulary related to the topic of becoming more
independent.
- Acquire some useful vocabulary related to becoming more independent.
- Enhance integrated skills with focus on vocabulary, grammar, and
pronunciation.
- Students will be able to review and consolidate key vocabulary and grammar
points from Unit 8.
- Students will be able to reflect on their personal development and learning
throughout the unit.
2. Competency
- Manage to put vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation into practice.
- Develop communication skills;
- Be collaborative and supportive in pair work and teamwork;
- Improve flexibility.
3. Personal qualities
- Understand more about different ways of becoming more independent;
- Apply learned information about the topic to improve vocabulary, grammar,
and pronunciation.

▪ Equipment - Flashcards/ pictures, realia, worksheets, computer
and screen, sound system, mini-boards

III. Teaching procedures

Warm-up and introduction (5 min)
Aims: - Ss reorganize the
pictures which are given
- To create a friendly and comfortable classroom by T.
atmosphere and to break the ice, getting Ss ready for
learning; - Ss feel motivated to
learn as the atmosphere
- To activate Ss’ interest and lead into the lesson. has been heated up by the
game.

Finding Nobita:

- The teacher divides the class into two teams: team


A, and team B.

- Students will help Doraemon meet Nobita again


after Doraemon returns to the future.

- The teacher has four countries, and each country


will have one challenge. To help Doraemon,
Students must pass the challenges.

- The team that can help Doraemon overcome more Keys:


challenges will receive gifts from Doraemon.

- The first place is America and the challenging
question is “What is it?”. The teacher will show 2

- The second place is Australia, and the challenge is
that the teacher will let the students watch a short
video, and then the students will guess what kind of
lifestyle it is.

- The third place is Canada and the challenge is


“unscramble this word” The teacher will show a
series of scrambled words for students to
unscramble.

- The fourth place is Germany, and the challenge is


"What is the difference between the two pictures?"
Students have 15 seconds to see, and then the team
that can answer two different points will pass this
challenge.

LEAD- IN:

As you see, management and decision-making are


essential skills to lead an independent life. Today,
we will learn Unit 8: Looking Back to revise what
we have learnt in this unit in terms of pronunciation,
grammar and vocabulary.

Pronunciation:(8 min)

-Focus on a specific pronunciation point from Unit 8,


such as fall-rise intonation. Review the rules and
have students practice reading example sentences - Ss are able to listen and
from the textbook together. practice in unison and in pairs.

Vocabulary & Grammar:(12 min)

Task 2: Choose the correct answers A, B, or C to Keys:

minutes.

- T randomly chooses 2 groups, appoints 2


leaders of 2 groups to come to the podium and
give a presentation in front of the class.

- Show a model answer for this task.

- Besides, T gives feedback to Ss’ presentation. 4


shark tanks are supposed to invest money in the
best presenter. The best one will receive a
valuable gift from T.

IV. Homework: (2 min)


- Prepare for the next lesson: Unit 8: Writing
- Do exercises in the workbook.
