REALISM
Refers to the view of “reality” of any material object existing in the material world of the
human mind.
Holds that what one perceives is real and is out of their existing concrete reality.
Ex. I see the tree with my naked eye as a concrete reality (sensible).
The tree exist in the real world and has a proponent of his own such as, hardness and
thickness. (That tree is independent of anyone perception it is therefore “real”.
It’s not just an abstract concept produced by the mind, as the idealist would have it to believe.
1. Aims of education
In realism in general
o To prepare the student/child for a happy and successful life.
A realistic education aims to:
o Acquaint the student/child with the nature and the social environment
o Develop the physical and mental power of the student/ child.
o Develops and strains the senses of the child
o Prepare the child for real life.
o Provide the understanding of the material world through inquiry
o Transmit culture and develop human nature
o Enable the child know the world In order to ensure the survival and good life
