CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
A. Background Of Study
The introduction states the purpose of the study, literature review, and
research questions. The method outlines the procedures used to analyze data, data
collection, and sampling. The results present the findings of the study. The discussion
interprets the results and discusses the implications for the field. Finally, the

references list all the sources cited in the paper. Overall, a research paper in APA
style follows a specific format and style guidelines to ensure clarity, consistency, and
accuracy in research writing.

DISCUSSION
An APA style research paper consists of several components that are essential
to complete a research report. These include the title page, abstract, introduction,
literature review, methods, results, discussion, conclusions, and references. Each of
these components is crucial in providing a comprehensive and well-structured
research paper. Here is a brief overview of each component:
Title page: This is the first page of the research paper that includes the title of
the paper, author's name, affiliation, and running head. The running head is a
shortened version of the title that appears at the top of each page.
Abstract: This is a brief summary of the research paper that highlights the
research question, methods, and findings. It should be concise, clear, and
informative.
Introduction: This section provides an overview of the research topic,
research question, and hypothesis. It also presents the rationale for conducting
the research and its significance.
Literature Review: This section provides a critical analysis of the existing
literature on the research topic. It summarizes the research findings, identifies
gaps in the literature, and proposes a research hypothesis.
3
Methods: This section describes the research design, participants, procedures,
and instruments used in the research. It should provide sufficient detail for
other researchers to replicate the study.
Results: This section presents the findings of the research in a clear and
concise manner. It should include tables, graphs, and charts to support the
findings.
Discussion: This section analyzes the research findings and interprets their
significance. It should also identify limitations and propose recommendations
for future research.
Conclusions: This section summarizes the research findings and their
implications. It should answer the research question and hypothesis.
References: This section provides a list of all the sources cited in the research
paper. It follows the APA style guidelines for in-text citations and references.
There are specific formatting guidelines for APA style research papers. These
include the font, margins, line spacing, page numbers, headings, and citations. Here
are some of the essential formatting guidelines:
Font: Use Times New Roman, 12-point font size for the entire paper.
Margins: Use one-inch margins on all sides of the paper.
Line spacing: Use double spacing throughout the paper, including the
reference list.
Page numbers: Number all pages in the upper right corner of the page.
Headings: Use headings to organize the paper into sections. Headings range
from level 1 (main headings) to level 5 (subheadings).
Citations: Use in-text citations to indicate the source of information and
include a reference list at the end of the paper.
Although there are many variations in the bibliography writing system, in the
academic field there are actually only two basic models, the division of which is
4
based on: the humanities system, and the scientific system. Guidelines for writing
documentation (bibliography) developed and/or used by academic professional
organizations in scientific systems which are quite well known, have international
standards and are used widely among others are the CMS style, CBE style, CSE style,
and APA style.
While the guidelines for writing documentation used in humanities systems other than
CMS, include guidelines published by the Modern Language Association (MLA). The
Modern Language Association publishes two writing guidelines: The MLA Handbook
for Writers of Research Papers, and the MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly
Publishing.
CMS style : CMS style or chicago style refers to The Chicago Manual of
Style, 15th edition, published by the University of Chicago Press (2003). The
CMS style has two bibliography writing systems, namely the name-and-year
system (author-date-system), and documentary-notes. The CMS style is used
in humanities systems and scientific systems.
CBE style : The CBE style refers to the CBE Style Manual a Guide for
Authors, Editors, and Publishers in the Biological Sciences published by the
CBE Style Manual Committee. 5th edition, revised and expanded (1983). The
CBE style is used in biology.
CSE style : The CSE Style manual is a development of the CBE Style
Manual. On January 1, 2000 the Council of Biology Editors (CBE) changed to
the Council of Science Editors (CSE). This name change reflects the
expansion of the expansion. Scientific Style and Format The CSE Manual for
Authors, Editors, and Publishers, 7th edition (2006), has three versions
(systems) for writing a bibliography. The version is based on citation systems,
namely: citation-name (C-N), citation-sequence (C-S), and name-year (N-Y)
systems. The CSE style is used in biology, and other fields of science.
5
WHAT style : APA style refers to the American Psychological Association,
Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. 5th edition
(2001). APA style is used in psychology, and the social sciences. Writing in
APA style is almost the same as CMS style. The difference lies in writing the
year of publication in APA style, the year is written in parentheses and the
words and (and) are replaced with ampersand symbols (&); for writing the
name (names) of the author with the Harvard system.
1. Start with a clear research question and hypothesis. This will help you focus your
research and organize your paper.
2. Conduct a thorough literature review. This will help you identify the gaps in the
literature and propose a research hypothesis.
3. Use clear and concise language. Write in an active voice and avoid using jargon,
clichés, and overly complex sentences.
4. Use headings to organize the paper into sections. This will make it easier for the
reader to follow the structure of the paper.
5. Use tables, graphs, and charts to support your findings. This will make your results
more accessible and understandable.
7. Proofread your paper carefully. Check for grammar, spelling, and punctuation
errors, and ensure that your paper follows the APA style guidelines.

CHAPTER III
CLOSSING
A. Conclusion
Writing an APA style research paper requires focus, time, research, and
writing skills. It involves several components, including the title page, abstract,
introduction, literature review, methods, results, discussion, conclusions, and
references. Following the APA style formatting guidelines and using effective writing
strategies can result in a comprehensive and well-structured research paper. By
incorporating these tips into your writing process, you can create an effective,
informative, and well-presented APA style research paper. Making a paper in APA
style is a process that includes several stages, such as making a clear writing plan,
conducting proper research and data analysis, and writing using the correct APA
format and style. It is also important to build a bibliography step by step and ensure
the correspondence between the quotations and references in the work. In order to be
successful in writing a paper in the APA style, it requires commitment and dedication
to produce quality scientific work.
B. Suggestion
Pay attention to details and suitability between all parts of the paper, including
abstract, introduction, methods, results, discussion, and conclusions. Make sure to
avoid plagiarism by citing all sources accurately and not using the words of these
sources without quotation marks. Don't forget to correct the last grammatical and
spelling mistakes before compiling the final draft of the paper. Finally, ask for
feedback from friends or lecturers who are experts in the field of scientific writing to
help improve paper quality.
