Module Objectives:
1. Students will acquire the specific knowledge and skills in early childhood education which is relevant to their
careers.
2. Students will develop the attitude needed to participate effectively in their role as educators of young children 5 to
6 years of age.
3. Students will develop an awareness of the changing educational needs in community.
4. Students will obtain practical experiences in dealing with the needs of children and parents, in a kindergarten.
Students will obtain exposure to classroom teaching, classroom management, observation, lesson planning and
evaluation of students.
Credit Value: 3
Prerequisite (if any): completed at least 85% of the Diploma and TIP 121 Practicum I
Module outcomes:
At the end of the module the students demonstrate an ability to:-
1. Describe activities which take place in an early childhood setting.
2. Recognize the challenges faced when teaching an operating preschool.
3. Work and communicate effectively with children, parents and staff members.
4. Design developmentally appropriate programs.
5. Observe and assess children’s development in reference to learning opportunities.
6. Understand social, professional and ethical issues related to their functioning as educators of young children 5 to 6
years of age.
7. Demonstrate a basic understanding of child development, child behaviour and early childhood pedagogy that will
assist them in their role as educators.
8. Reflect on and evaluate a range of specific teaching practices and on their own teaching performance.
9. Acquire proficient writing skills and write lesson plans and carry out with reference to learning outcomes.
Synopsis:
This unit is aimed at providing students with the opportunity to further develop their understanding of and
competencies in working in a practical situation with young children. This unit will provide students with the necessary
skills, knowledge and attitude required for them to venture into early childhood education. The necessary adjustment,
understanding and insight into the world of children and early childhood educators will be created.

Lesson Plans and Daily Report 50%
No Topic Lecture Tutorial Practical
Teachers would be required to keep a record
book of all activities involved in during this
practicum. This log book containing lesson plans
will state theme, the activities, objectives, learning
outcomes and challenges they faced.
Date, time of arrival, time of departure from the
1 institute must also be clearly stated. Teachers are 180
required to obtain endorsement from the principal
or supervisor with respect to their presence. There
will be supervision from teaching staff of Kolej
Dika. Students are encouraged to seek
assistance and advice from lecturers when
encountering any difficulty.
Students are required to assist in whatever
manner requested of them. At the end of the day
evaluation will be based on report submitted by
supervisors and evaluation of the principal.
