ABSTRACT

This study considers several instances of abstraction that arose in the

design and implementation of the web programming language links. The first

concern that user interface, specified using HTML forms. This means that while

most of the criteria are understood initially, they are expected to develop over

time until the final product is reached. The researchers used. The study was

conducted at the University of Rizal System – Antipolo Campus.

The purpose of the study was to determine the efficacy and acceptability

of disseminating information about the College of Engineering at the University of

Rizal System. Because of the pandemic, the researchers built a promotion

website that will be determined by presenting it to all Engineering faculty

members, particularly our dean. On the other hand, the acceptability was

determined by administering an adapted questionnaire checklist to our

classmates and students at URS Antipolo and the group exposed to the material.

In order to build the project correctly, the researchers sought advice from

professionals. The level of acceptability of the University of Rizal System College

of Engineering Promotion Website gained a grand mean of 3.95 and 4.07 for

Experts and End Users, respectively. The device is considered Very Much

Acceptable for the Experts and the End-Users about the computed values.

The researchers concluded that the promotion website is reliable in giving

information about the College of Engineering and was also acceptable by both

experts and end-users concerning the functionality, design, safety and

maintenance, and marketability. Moreover, there is no significant difference

between the perception of the experts and end-users on the acceptability of the

promotion website concerning the variables mentioned. The University of Rizal

System College of Engineering Promotion Website may be subjected to

improvement. Future researchers can add more features.

Chapter 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

This chapter presents the following: Introduction, background, assumption,

objectives, scope and limitations, significance of the study, theoretical and

conceptual framework, and definition of terms used.

Introduction

Today, websites are the best way to publicize and disseminate information

to a more significant number of individuals worldwide. The internet is a

technology that provides an organization with a means of communicating with

the general public. It also has only one characteristic without geographical

boundaries or time limits. Everyone interacts through one-to-many or many-to-

many networks meeting matches to do business and provide or request services

they want.

A school website is one of the most effective tools to improve

communication, engage parents, market its strengths, and build a solid, trusting

reputation within its community. These are benefits that help improve education

for our nation`s students, making achieving them worth the effort. Any

engineering website school promotion usually serves two purposes. The first one

is to provide current parents, students, staff, and community members with

timely, engaging, and up-to-date information. The second purpose is to recruit

quality staff and attract new students (via their parents or guardians). As a result,

the school's website must inform and market to current and prospective students.

12
It cannot be easy because those audiences have slightly different needs.

However, do not worry. With a bit of forethought, it is possible to do it correctly.

Website promotion is essential in making an excellent first impression as it

is often the first contact that people have with the school. Therefore, the school

website affects school's overall image and reputation, which can lead to

increased admissions. Having a good school website is also very important in

delivering a good user experience to regular users, including teachers, students,

and parents.

Having a website that works well is vital. It has never been more critical to

have a website that is fast enough for use on mobile devices, has a design that

engages and promotes the use by visitors, and architecture that makes it easy

for potential students to find information. Universities needed a website that is

appealing to visitors, makes it stand out from competitors and brings instant

credibility to school brand. The website and social media are likely to be the sole

source of developing brand awareness at this time, making it a key component in

any survival strategy during challenging times like the pandemic everyone faces

as of this moment. Many universities and school businesses will remain closed

for some time. Many have moved impressively and effectively online, but this still

comes with the constant challenge of helping people in finding online courses. If

consumers do, websites impress should be enough to consider these against the

many low-cost online engineering services. However, because they cannot travel

at present does not mean that students stuck at home are not hungry for

engineering programs.

13
Background of the Study

In recent years, as part of the Information and Communication

Technology (ICT) reform on the one hand, and increased demands for school

accountability on the other, an increasing number of schools have launched a

school website aimed at enhancing educational activities, supporting student-

teacher communication, contributing to school marketing efforts, and fostering

accountability to and collaboration with parents. (Tubin's design of a school

website: content, structure, and responsiveness, 2016)

A substantial body of research on ICT-based pedagogical and

educational websites reveals their contributions to the schooling process.

However, the phenomenon of school websites that serve the entire school

organization remains relatively unexplored. The authors investigate the contents

and structure of school websites, as well as their responsiveness to their

school's environment, in this study. With this in light, the possibility of creating

schools’ presence in the media on the form of websites is really promising and

full of potential.

According to recent statistics, 95% of Americans own a cell phone and

77% own a smartphone. This means that having a responsive, mobile-friendly

website is more vital than ever. (Pew Research, 2018) If you're not sure if your

school's website is mobile-friendly, Google has a handy responsiveness testing

tool. A responsive, mobile-friendly website is the logical option. This one step

will also solve or lessen a number of other accessibility concerns. Any school

website usually serves two key goals. One is to present your current parents,

14
students, employees, and community with timely, engaging, and current

information. The second goal is to recruit competent staff and attract new pupils

(via their parents or guardians). As a result, your school's website must both

inform and market to current and potential clients. It can be difficult because

such audiences have slightly different needs. But don't be alarmed. With a little

forethought, it is possible to accomplish it correctly.

After acknowledging the presence and potential of school websites, the

implementation is really viable given the current situation we are in right now.

To some extent, the school's ideas, aims, and tactics for communicating

and collaborating with families are reflected in the design of school websites.

We may learn about the key parts and features for parents to employ in order to

expand their involvement in and effect on school management in the new digital

society by analyzing school websites.

School websites are not only sources of data and information, but also

methods of communication that are increasingly being accessible to members of

society, particularly various educational groups, as a result of the

democratization of Internet access. This paper describes a qualitative research

project in which information and communication technology coordinators of

infant and primary publicly funded private schools and state schools in urban,

rural, and semi-urban/rural areas of the Region of Cantabria (Spain) were

interviewed to better understand how school websites are managed. The

findings reveal a variety of perspectives and methods in the management of

schools' websites, as well as some good advancements in their uses and

15
functions, as well as various areas for improvement. School websites are

important social tools that must be constantly improved/updated by their

administrators with the help of the education authorities (Alvarez-Alvarez,

Carmen; Inés-García, José ,2017).

When designing a website to authentically depict a school's identity and

successfully handle stakeholders' demands, the framework and proposed

solutions support a holistic approach. Hence the need to help understand what

defines a successful website that offers a school a channel for providing

innovation in teaching and learning while also complementing how a school

functions. This research looked at school websites, especially how 30 schools in

South Australia used their website as a teaching and learning gateway, to assist

administrative processes, and as a marketing platform. The study was

organized around three core questions. First, what characteristics should be

investigated to determine how schools use their website? Second, what makes

a school website entertaining and valuable, and third, what development

framework can be established to aid schools with mapping their website's

strengths and areas for further growth. The criteria for evaluation were website

design, purpose, content, and technological integration (Taddeo, and Barnes,

2016).

A study of an Israeli secondary school may serve as a starting point for

further research on internationalization in the secondary education system via

the suggested thorough, trustworthy, and user-friendly school website

assessment tool. This site contains a case study on assessing

16
internationalization. The international, multicultural, and global elements of

education are studied, with Anat's emphasis on one specific secondary school

in Israel. An innovative, practical evaluation technique for measuring the

intensity and extent of internationalization at the school level is offered, based

on a systematic examination of school websites and modified from an existing

assessment instrument for higher education institutions. An in-depth interview

with the principal of the focal school confirms the results, showing that the

suggested technique may be simply employed in large-scale investigations.

According to the findings of the evaluation, internationalization processes occur

in all of the evaluated domains, albeit the degree and appearance vary greatly

(Yemini, Miri; Cohen, Anat, 2016).

Today, schools employ a variety of Internet technologies, including the

school's website, to inform and interact with parents (The Swedish National

Agency for Education, 2016; Thompson, Mazer, & Flood Grady, 2015). The

school's website can be seen of as a window into the school, functioning as a

central hub for public advocacy and information, particularly for parents (both

current and prospective).

In a case study conducted by Harini Venkatesh where they redesign a

website of a school to which they plan to work with a teammate to deliver new

Information Architecture (IA) and an interactive hi-fi prototype of Nanyang

School of Fine Arts (NAFA) website. The redesign should meet the user goals

represented by the 3 given personas, the goals of the school, and align with its

existing brand values. The researcher would like to add features that can help

17
student compare two courses based on a set of criteria and also relook at the UI

of the website to reflect the brand values of innovation and creativity. They used

the project as a learning base to work on future AI project.

Theoretical Framework

In order to study school websites for parental use to improve parental

involvement in education, there are two critical aspects to be considered. One is

the definition and dimension of parental involvement, the content of information

presented on web pages, and another is the functional properties dealing with

the design of websites. The theoretical frameworks relevant to this study are thus

twofold (Limin Gu, 2016).

According to previous research, school websites enable the efficient

sharing and archiving of information about students' learning and progress,

school policies and assignments, tips for family involvement, other familiar topics,

and the conveyance of information to multiple families. (Olmstead, 2013;

Goodall, 2016).

Research in this area has primarily focused on parents' rights and

opportunities to choose their preferred schools for their children and the

consequences of doing so. (Poikolainen & Silmäri-Salo, 2015)

Atheist human beings live in the twenty-first century technological

revolution in information technology, the most important of which is software and

the World Wide Web network. The internet has permeated many aspects of life,

including education and scientific research, as well as ready-made software in

18
several parts of mathematics; this software has been integrated into education

as part of the techniques for teaching mathematics (Shehadeh.2015).

It attempted to determine the impact of the use of e-learning to engage

low-achieving students (Lee, 2010). In a study conducted on the achievement in

Taiwanese universities in learning activities based on problem-solving and in

learning and self-organized activities provided in special programs at these

universities, the study sample consisted of 102 students from one of Taiwan's

universities. The study employed a tribal and another dimensional questionnaire

to detect the perceptions of students' low achievement on the impact of learning

using e-learning for their participation. The study's findings revealed that there is

a clear impact on the e-learning low student achievement trends and increased

the level of achievement.

In the study and education for students of Spanish universities, the study

sample consisted of 126 male and female students, and study results indicated

a relationship positive and statistically significant between the use of e-learning

and the quality of education, and that e-learning was capable of improving the

collection of university students in various courses (Navarro, R. 2012).

26
Chapter 2

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the research design, system flowchart, setting and

subject of the study, research procedure, and statistical treatment of data.

Research Design

The researchers employed developmental research framework –

developmental analysis. According to Gillaco (2014), it looks for facts about a

current situation. In addition, this strategy focuses on describing, comparing,

analyzing, and interpreting pre-existing data. Meanwhile, Beb (n.d.) defined the

developmental method as a corpus of research literature directly related to

instructional development, implying that output will be generated once this study

is finished.

Figure 2, show the iterative, which depicts how the researchers developed

the system to solve a problem that must be solved. The operation should include

the accuracy of the result as well as the user interface of the system.

The software development process is divided into the following steps:

requirement analysis, sprint planning, development, implementation, and review

and monitoring. The process is repeated until the product development process

is complete. This means that while majority of the requirements are known at the

outset, they will evolve until the final product is delivered.

The researchers used iterative and incremental development because it is

useful in developing working functionality quickly and early in the life cycle, as

27
well as obtaining periodic results. Because there is feedback, it is simple to make

changes and improvements in this model. Apart from that, it enables you to

create a basic product and then improve it. Furthermore, it is more adaptable and

less expensive in terms of changing the scope and/or requirements of the

project.

Setting of the Study

28
This study was conducted at the University of Rizal System, located at the

City of Antipolo, Province of Rizal. The University of Rizal System result from the

merging of two state colleges and university – the Rizal Polytechnic College,

Rizal State College, and the Rizal Technological University Antipolo Annex.

The approval of Republic Act 9157 on August 11, 2001 established the

University of Rizal System with URS Tanay as the main campus and its satellite

campuses in Morong, Pililla, Rodriguez, Angono, Binangonan, Cainta, Antipolo,

Cardona, and Taytay. Republic Act No. 1560 in 1956 established the Rizal State

College as the Rizal National Agricultural School (RNAS) and was qualified as a

state college and known as Rizal College of Agriculture and Technology,

chartered it as a state college (RCAT) which was later renamed Rizal State

College (RSC) on June 24, 1983, by Batas Pambansa Bilang 662 making it the

first state college in the province of Rizal.

The University of Rizal System Antipolo Campus has four colleges, namely.

College of Business Administration, College of Engineering, College of

Hospitality Industry, and College of Education. The College of Engineering offers

the following programs; Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCPE)

and Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE).

The College of Engineering in URS Antipolo was awarded as the Best

College for its excellent performance and service during the 14th Annual URS

PRAISE Awarding Ceremonies, held in September 2019. In December of the

same year, the University of Rizal System Antipolo Campus got a 100% passing

rate for the TESDA National Certificate II Computer Systems Servicing, taken by

29
5th Computer Engineering Students.

Figure 3

Vicinity Map of University of Rizal System Antipolo Campus

Subject of the Study

30
The study focused on the development of the College of Engineering

Promotion Website. One of the objectives was to determine the acceptability of

the selected variables like Design, Accuracy, Functionality, Security, and

Maintenance. The study's respondents included upcoming first-year students,

fifteen (15) at Antipolo City, and fifteen (15) experts from Computer Engineering

as end-user.

The respondents, as mentioned above, were chosen for they are in the

most suitable position to respond and conclude the efficiency of the College of

Engineering Promotion Website. This study utilized the descriptive statistics

method to determine the significant difference of acceptability as perceived by

the experts and end-users.

Source of Data

The researchers sought advice from professionals in the field of Computer

Engineering before developing the system. Data were acquired primarily from the

internet and other studies. The researchers started working on the system where

trials and adjustment are conducted repeatedly until the goal was achieved.

Then, the researchers prepared a questionnaire checklist for the respondents to

evaluate its level of acceptability.

The questionnaire checklist is answerable by a scale of 1 to 5 in terms of

its design, functionality, accuracy, security and maintenance of the University of

Rizal System, College of Engineering Promotion Website. The scales below were

31
used to determine the acceptability of the College of Engineering Promotion

Website.

that the system satisfied the users in terms of unique graphical user interface,

displays the data that the user needs, an adaption of a graphical user interface to

different platforms, and an error-free button and tables.

Parlakkiliç & Alaattin, (2022), mentioned that users will benefit from a

website's responsive design without having to worry about screen size or

resolution. The purpose of this research is to look at the impact of responsive

46
design on usability. According to the findings, 99.2 percent of university students

owned smartphones and utilized them to connect to the internet at a rate of 91.3

percent. It was discovered that participants' opinions toward responsive design

did not change based on gender, and students between the ages of 24 and 26

were more eager to embrace responsive design.

Khalaf, Mohammed H. Ragab (2019) an experiment that includes 84

undergraduate students. They were separated into two experimental groups,

each with 42 pupils. The responsive website (RW) was utilized by the first group,

whereas the adaptive website was used by the second (AW). The results of the

PLT revealed that the second group outperformed the first by a statistically

significant margin. According to the findings, it is important to raise knowledge

about the value of mobile learning, as well as to implement effective designs that

increase student’s choice.

These findings correlate with the study of Graham (2016), where

according to him whatever he posts on the Internet it is being tested

unconsciously by the readers and visitors. His website gains credibility

independent of experience if the material is credible and true. However, if they

prioritized presenting themselves as experts at the expense of always being

49
accurate, their website's trustworthiness may suffer.

50
It is supported by the research finding of Strategy Marketing Agency

(2022) where “Web security is important to keep hackers and cyber thieves from

accessing sensitive information. Without a proactive security strategy, websites

risk the spread and escalation of malware, and attacks on other websites,

networks, and other IT infrastructures. A professional website maintenance

service will keep your website secure and up to date at all times. This allows you

to concentrate on operating your business rather than worrying about your

website being hacked or damaged.”
