INFORMATION BULLETIN NO.1

The Penang International Dragon Boat Festival Committee (PIDBF) cordially invites
teams from around the globe to participate in our upcoming dragon boat race set to
be held from November 23rd and 24th November 2024, at the Teluk Bahang Dam in
Penang, Malaysia.

Race Venue

This event is fully endorsed by the Penang State Government. With a rich history of
hosting dragon boat races for over 30 years, PIDBF possesses a wealth of technical
expertise, including support from numerous skilled IDBF Technical Officials.

Competition Regulations and Racing Rules

This race will comply with PIDBF Competition Regulations & Rules of Racing. All
participating teams are required to submit the Expression Of Interest to PIDBF no
later than 30 April 2024. Thereafter, submit Confirmed Entry Form together
with the entry fees no later than 31 July 2024.

Divisions, Racing & Competition Class and Distance

The Competition Divisions, Racing and Competition Classes that will be contested
are listed below, provided a minimum of 4 entries are received for each competition
class.
500 m
Event Straight Course Tug of War
(12 Racers) (6 Racers)

1 Malaysia Premier Open


2 International Premier Open
3 International Premier Women
4 International Premier Mixed
5 International Junior U24 Open
6 International Junior U24 Women
7 International Junior U24 Mixed
8 International Senior 40 Open
9 International Master 60 Open

Division

Premier – the primary class of racing. There are no restrictions on competitor’s age.
Open to all participants.

Junior Under 24 – Aged between 12 years and 23 years old (born on or between
year 2001 and 2012), Drummer and Steerer can be of any age.

Senior 40 – Aged between 40 years and 59 years old (born on or between year
1984 and 1965), Drummer and Steerer can be of any age.

Master 60 – Aged between 60 years and above (born on or after year 1964),
Drummer and Steerer can be of any age.

Racing Class

Open – no restriction on participant composition (gender)

Women – for female participants; Drummer and Steerer can be of any gender.

Mixed – minimum of four (4) and maximum of five (5) paddlers of either gender.
Drummer & Steerer can be of any gender.

Example:

12 Racers

5 Male paddlers + 5 Female paddlers + Drummer & Steerer/Helm of any gender

5 Male paddlers + 4 Female paddlers + Drummer & Steerer/Helm of any gender

4 Male paddlers + 5 Female paddlers + Drummer & Steerer/Helm of any gender

4 Male paddlers + 4 Female paddlers + Drummer & Steerer/Helm of any gender

Category

A) Straight course - 500 meter

o Teams may race through Heats, Semi Finals & Finals.

B) Tug Of War

o Each time two teams will compete with each other in a knockout system.
o Each team will be seated on the last 3 seats on either side of a boat, facing
the opponent team.
o Teams will paddle to move the boat towards the opponent team.
o The team that manages to move the boat 1 meter in the direction from the
center line will be determined as the winner.

Racing Style

Seated

Type of Boat Provided

Standard boat (22-seater boat) will be used for all categories.

500 m : 12 Racers – Maximum 14 competitors:


8 to 10 paddlers
1 drummer
1 steerer
2 reserves

Tug of War : 6 Racers – Maximum 8 competitors:


6 paddlers
2 reserves

Entry Requirement

Each club can form a maximum of two (2) teams under the same team name ie.
Team A & Team B.

Participant

A participant can represent in one (1) team only (either Team A or Team B).

Entry Fee

Each event will incur a RM100 fee per event, which is required to be settled for
submission of the Confirmed Entry Form.

For Tug of War will be RM50 fee for each event.

Each participant will incur a RM20 fee per participant, which is required to be
settled for submission of the Confirmed Entry Form. Each participant will be
provided with a crew photo tag.

The above program is provisional and is provided to assist participants with their
initial planning. This program is subject to changes. The competition classes by day
will be confirmed upon Confirmed Entry Forms have been received.
