1. Patients and AeroSleds shall be installed such that the patient's head is forward in the aircraft.
2. If a backrest is installed, it shall be in the fully lowered position for taxi, takeoff and landing.
3. A minimum of one attendant must be provided for each stretcher occupant who is incapable of
independently exiting the aircraft.
4. No obstruction, including LifePort equipment, accessory systems or transport incubators, may fall
within the projected emergency exit opening, during taxi, takeoff or landing, unless an unobstructed
opening large enough to admit a 19-by-26-inch ellipse is provided; reference Figure 1. The 19-by-26-
inch ellipse can be located anywhere, vertically and longitudinally, within the opening of the
emergency exit.
Note:
An obstruction is any object that can block or hinder the operation of the emergency exits or access
to the emergency exit. This limitation in no way implies that any obstruction may be in any other
location.

System Placards
1. In case of failure of generator or alternator to produce output for any reason, the EMS (PLUS) electrical
system will be automatically shed. The EMS (PLUS) system may be brought back on line by placing the
switch in the Override position.
WARNING: The electrical loads must be monitored to maintain approved loads (300 Amp for the
generator, 140 Amps for the alternator)
See procedures section of the applicable Airplane Flight Manual for detailed load shedding procedures.
If the forward passenger door is used, remove the patient from the sled and drag them by lifting under both
arms and backing through the door. If the window exit is used, allow the pilot to exit first. Put the patient’s
legs through the window. Lift the upper body and allow it to slide through the window. The pilot lowers the
patient to the ground.

The occupant shall be secured by the occupant restraint harness during taxi, take-off and landing
operations.
The occupant restraining harness is installed as required to fit each individual occupant. The shoulder
straps are passed over the occupants shoulders and fastened through the buckle of the torso belt. The
thigh belt is secured over the lower limbs of the occupant.
Slide AeroSled down PLUS until latching pins engage latching station. Verify that all four latch pins are
engaging latch stations. Rocking the sled from each end is an acceptable method of verification.
Occupants head must be forward.
One or two Patient Loading and Utility Systems (PLUS) may be installed.
The PLUS installation is powered from the aircraft electrical system and is controlled by the LifePort switch
located in pilot's lower instrument panel. This control switch has three positions; ON, OFF, and
OVERRIDE.
The PLUS system is powered from the aircraft circuitry and is protected by an automatic load shed system.
(Both the generator and alternator must be on line for the system to function.)
The Override position is for ground use and emergency override in a generator out situation per the
Emergency Procedures in this supplement.
Primary aircraft electrical systems shall have priority over medical systems when electrical load shedding is
required.

The LifePort system includes an option for a cargo sled. If an AeroSled TD 46" or 72" (Part no. 100-
4501 and 100-4941 or AS1-059-01, respectively) is installed, the following loading limits must be
observed.
This section provides loading limitations for LifePort cargo sleds. Sleds are equipped with placards
giving the weight and vertical cg limitations for that sled.
The sleds are equipped with standard Brownline track as shown below.

The sled limitations are based on a given weight at a given vertical center of gravity (CG). The
vertical CG is the point at which the payload could be balanced on a point if turned on it's side as
shown below.
The Vertical CG's of several items can be combined by multiplying the weight and cg of each
item and summing them and dividing by total weight.
The sled is limited to 120 lbs including the 28 lb sled weight for the 46" (100-4501) TD, 300 lb not
including the sled for the 72" (100-4941) TD and 270 lb not including the sled for the 72” (AS1-
059-01) TD. The vertical CG is limited to 12" above the sled latch pins.

The payload is restrained by cargo straps and must have a minimum of two straps. The
attachment of the straps to the track must be separated by a minimum of 12" for the 46" TD and
24" for the 72" TD in the fore aft direction. See below for a typical strap attachment to the track.
Minimum strap rating of 2000 lbs tension is required for maximum load. For several pieces or
unusual shapes cargo nets are preferable.
Special attention is need to ensure the payload is secured in the forward direction. The following
figures show some acceptable strapping configurations.
