21st Century Literature from the Philippines and the World

I. OBJECTIVES
A. CONTENT STANDARDS: The learner will be able to understand and appreciate the
elements and contexts of 21st century Philippine literature from the regions.

B. PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learner will be able to demonstrate understanding and


appreciation of 21st Century Philippine literature from the regions through: a written close
analysis and critical interpretation of a literary text in terms of form and theme, with a
description of its context derived from research; and an adaptation of a text into other creative
forms using multimedia.

C. LEARNING COMPETENCIES/OBJECTIVES. Write the LC code for each.

IV. PROCEDURE

A. PREPARATION
- Greetings
- Checking of attendance
- Reviewing of the past lesson

B. ACTIVITY
The class will be divided into 3 groups. Each group will be given a symbol for them to
explain by merely answering the question, “Who is that very important person you can
remember with that symbol?”

Group 1 – Candle
Group 2 – Flower
Group 3 – Book
Each group is given 3 minutes to brainstorm then one member of the group will discuss
their answer in the class.
C. ANALYSIS
The teacher will process the activity by asking questions:
1. How are the symbols used?
2. What is the literal meaning of the candle, flower and book? What is the figurative
meaning of your given symbols based on the person you are describing?
3. What is text?
4. What is context?

Present to the class the day’s objectives.

DISCUSSION
Present sample of “The Fellowship of the Ring by JRR TOLKIEN.
When Mr. Bilbo Baggins of Bag End announced that he would shortly be
celebrating his eleventy-first birthday with a party of special magnificence, there
was much talk and excitement in Hobbiton.
Process questions:
1. Identify the statement that is plain text?
2. If we analyze the context of the text, what may be the questions asked?
Types of Context

2. Reader’s Context
3. Text’s Context

E. APPLICATION
GROUP ACTIVITY

GROUP 1
Activity: “Excuse me, Po”
Directions: Present a 5-minute actual radio broadcast that explains the meaning of the
text and context. You will select an anchor/s, new presenters, technical director, and
scriptwriter.

GROUP 2
Activity: “Poem Poem Poem”
Directions: Compose and recite the poem to the class afterward explain the context of
your poem composition.

Group 3
Activity: “Song Mo, I-context mo”
Directions: Directions: Locate at least 2 figurative languages used in the music and
explain the context of the song.

GENERALIZATION AND VALUING


Using a pot, they have to answer each question to measure their understanding from
all the activities and discussions
Process questions:
1. What’s the difference between text and context?
2. Why is context important?

V. ASSESSMENT
In your ¼ sheet of paper, write T if the statement is True and F if the statement is
false.

1. Writer’s context is about the previous reading experience.


2. A text is the written part of the story, what happens, and what is stated on the
page.
3. Context depends on the meaning of a word in a sentence.
4. Text’s context is about its publishing history.
5. Text refers to the words which are written, while context is the surroundings
of the text, whether it is created within the text or describing the situation of
the author's life in which the text was written.

VI. ASSIGNMENT
Research the different multimedia formats.
