1.0 SCOPE:
2.1 The neutral grounding resistors and their accessories supplied shall
comply with the requirements of the latest revision of the relevant
standards of:
2.2 Any other recognised international codes or standards may be used in lieu
of the above, subject to prior approval of the Company.
5.1 Resistors:
5.1.2 Resistors shall be able to carry the rated current for the rated time with
temperature rise not exceeding the specified limit over the maximum
specified ambient temperature when the resistor is housed in a covered,
inadequately ventilated room. The rating details shall be as given in the
enclosed data sheet.
5.1.3 Grids shall be mounted on steel rods insulated by special heat resistant
micanite paper tubes. Grids' washers shall be of natural mica. Porcelain
insulators shall be used to insulate the resistor elements from body of
enclosure.
5.1.4
All connections and associated support/other insulators shall be capable of
withstanding maximum allowable temperature rise within specified period
without causing any damage.
5.2 Enclosure:
5.2.1 The resistors shall be housed in a metal clad, totally closed enclosure. It
shall be verminproof and suitable for indoor installation. The enclosure
shall meet the requirements of IP-51/NEMA-12.
5.2.2 The enclosure shall have an arrangement for fixing it on floor and its
thickness shall not be less than 3 mm.
5.2.3 The terminals for neutral and earthing connections shall be housed in
separate verminproof compartments.
5.2.4 It shall be possible to periodically clean the resistors after lifting the top
cover.
5.2.5 It shall be possible to earth the cabinet or enclosure at two places and for
this purpose studs of suitable size shall be provided on the opposite sides
of NGR, for connection to main earth grid.

5.3 Terminals:
5.3.2 Suitable spring washers shall be provided between grid and terminals to
maintain good contact.
5.3.3 Two ends of resistor shall be brought to weather proof bushing type
terminals of adequate rating. Bolted type links shall be provided to isolate
the resistor.
Suitable space heater with thermostat control & M.C.B. shall be provided
inside the resistor cabinet to prevent condensation of moisture. This shall
be rated to operate from 240V, I Phase, 50Hz. supply. The terminals of the
space heaters shall be brought out in a separate terminal box.
All required nickel, chromium plated brass double compression type cable
glands & tinned copper lugs for incoming/outgoing cables shall be
included in the scope of supply.
5.6 Cooling:
The NGR shall be natural air cooled and any type of forced cooling shall
not be used. However, if required, louvers can be provided in the
enclosure. But wherever the louvers are being offered it shall be
completely guarded inside with a fine wiremesh (holes less than 1.omm)
to make it vermin proof.

All tests shall be carried out as per relevant standards at vendor’s works.
Company reserves the right to witness all tests and carryout inspection or
authorise its representative to witness tests and carryout inspection. For
this purpose, vendor shall notify the Company at least 20 days in advance
giving exact details of tests, dates and addresses of locations where the
tests would be carried out.
6.2 One minute power frequency high voltage withstand test shall be carried
out at a voltage as applicable to the rated voltage grade of the resistor.
The test shall be conducted by passing the rated current for rated time on
the complete assembly. The temperature rise shall be measured by
pyrometer.
7.0 SPARES:
7.1 Vendor shall recommend and provide spare parts needed for start-up . In
addition, Vendor shall also furnish a separate priced list of recommended
spares for two (2) years of normal operation and maintenance.
Recommended spares shall take into account the related factors of system
reliability, effect of downtime upon production, safety, cost of parts and
availability of equipment service facilities.
7.2 All spares furnished by the Vendor shall be wrapped and packaged so that
