Remember to apply Zoom Extents before you save your drawing.
Submit on Blackboard and strictly follow the instructions.
Total marks: 30.

QUESTION 6 (25 marks)

Given: Contour map of a certain area in Figure 1.

Required: Delineate the watershed and measure the channel length and watershed area.
Instructions:
a) Use the contour map “Assignment 7 Contour Map.dwg” to create the drawing.
b) Use a scale a suitable scale.
c) Create and use the layers below:
Name Linetype Colour Lineweight Application
Annotate Continuous white Default Text (area and length measurements), title
block and direction symbol
Channel_CL Continuous 160 0.70 mm Centre line of the channel
Channel_DF Continuous 160 Default Direction arrows and text for the direction of
flow
Contours Continuous 24 Default Contour lines and contour labels
Outlet Continuous 200 Default Outlet point and outlet text (and leader if
application)
Watershed_B Continuous 74 Default Watershed boundary
Watershed_H Continuous 72 Default Watershed hatching
d) Make the index contour bold. Start with the index contour 160. Label the index
contours using a suitable text height. Label short contours at least once and
long contours at least twice.
e) Draw the centreline for the channel. Show the direction of flow using arrows.
Use ten arrows, evenly spaced. Choose a suitable arrowhead size. Add the
text “DIRECTION OF FLOW” along the stream. Use a suitable text height.
f) Draw a point at the outlet and label it as “OUTLET”. Use a suitable point size
and text height.
g) Delineate the watershed by drawing the boundary lines for the channel and
close the area.
h) Hatch the area using the pattern GRASS. Use a suitable pattern scale.
i) Add the channel length and watershed area as notes below the map. Measure
and clearly show the length and area (magnitudes and units: m and m2). Use
suitable text height and add a frame around each note.
j) Complete the title block.
k) g) Add the direction symbol (north arrow). Scale and position appropriately.
