INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES
1. This question paper consists of four (4) questions. Answer ALL questions.
3. The time given includes 30 minutes preparation time before and after assessment time.
4. Please make sure of the following requirements for the Final Assessment
i) Form of Contract PWD 203A (Rev. 1/2010)
ii) Form of Contract PAM 2018
iii) Interim Certificate JKR66 (pin. 4/2000)
iv) Final Account Certificate
5. Please make sure to write your FULL NAME, STUDENT ID, COURSE CODE, CLASS GROUP,
LECTURER’S NAME and DATE OF ASSESSMENT on the 1st page of your answer sheet.
6. Ensure that you practice full integrity in doing the assessment. Students are NOT allowed to “cut
and paste” online sources or any other sources directly to your answer. Evidence in plagiarism in
your answer script will result in non-compliance for the assessment.

QUESTION 1
The following are particulars of a contract for the ‘Proposed Research Institute’ for UiTM Shah
Alam.
Prepare interim certificates based on the above valuations showing all calculations.
The Contractor submitted the performance bond prior to site possession.

c) A Prime Cost Sum of RM1,200,000.00 was allowed in the Bills of Quantities for
Electrical Installation. The Main Contractor has inserted 2% for profit and a lump sum
of RM20,000.00 for attendance in his tender. Before the tender for sub-contract works
(i.e. Electrical Installation) is called, substantial changes are made to the design and
specification of the same, making the accepted tender to be RM2,123,500.00. Advise
the Employer on the amount of the profit and attendance to be paid to the Main
Contractor. State your reasons for the advice.

Under the contract, final account shall be prepared once the project has been completed.

QUESTION 3
a) Due to the difficulty faced when carrying out an installation of a steel structure for the
construction of a warehouse, the contractor proposed to the Architects/S.O. to change
the size of the steel structure for the main frame. The proposal for a bigger size in design
for the main frame is for easy handling to which the Architect/S.O. has agreed. The
contractor claimed for the additional cost and was paid in the interim payment. However,
the employer insisted that the changes were not necessary and there was no written
instruction issued for it while the contractor thinks otherwise.
i) Define variation based on PWD203A (Rev. 1/2010) and PAM 2018 standard form
of contract.

b) Based on PWD203A (Rev 1/2010), explain the rules on the valuation of variation by
Superintending Officer (S.O).

QUESTION 4
Part of the pavement of road construction was damaged and blocked by rocks, boulders, and
fallen trees due to landslides from the upper portions of adjoining cliffs. The S.O. approved
the Contractor’s application for an extension of time of 25 days. The new completion date has
been to 19th December 2021 while the extension of time (EoT) has been approved by the
S.O. based on the following reasons:-

1. Exceptionally inclement weather 5 days
2. Remedial works due to discrepancies between the
Architectural and Engineering drawings 7 days
3. Additional slope protection works to prevent further
landslide upon instruction issued by the S.O. 13 days
Total 25 days
The Contractor via letter dated 18th December 2021 submitted an application for loss and/or
expense based on the reasons he was granted extension of time.
State:
a) The probable head of claims the Contractor could validly submit to the Client.

c) How he can substantiate such claims and the document and records he may require
supporting such claims.
