Automated Manual Transmissions
WESTERN STAR
Automated manual transmissions combine the best features of manual and automatic transmissions.
Manual transmissions are lighter than conventional automatic transmissions and suffer fewer energy losses.
AMT operates similarly to a manual transmission except that it does not require clutch
actuation or shifting by the driver. Automatic shifting is controlled electronically (shift-by-wire)
and performed by a hydraulic system or electric motor.

PTO Remote Increment Example
PTO remote controls can be specified to provide either a fast For example, if 100rpm increment is chosen using 79T-004 and 200rpm/sec is chosen using 79U-006, when the button
WESTERN STAR ramp-up or a more-gradual rampup. is depressed, the engine speed will change 100RPMs in 1/2 second. Similarly, if slower ramp up is desired, choosing
79T-004 (100rpm increment) and 79U-001 (25rpm/sec) will result in 100rpm increase over 4 seconds
Module 79U has sales codes used by customers to define the ramp rate of the PTO mode governor when the Cruise Control switches are used
for controlling the PTO mode governor. Module 79U may also contain IDD selection charts containing the correct data for configuring engine controllers.
Performance:
The PTO governor ramp rate setting affects the rate of change of the engine RPM when Cruise Control switches are used for controlling the engine speed.
The ramp rate should generally be set to lower values when a split-shaft (driveline mounted) PTO is used to prevent excessive shock to the driveline and PTO.
Module 79T has sales codes used by customers to define the increment by which engine RPM will change when the PTO mode governor is active and either the Cruise
Control Set switch or Cruise Control Resume switch is pressed momentarily.
Performance:
Correct operation of this feature can be verified by activating the engine's PTO mode governor with the Cruise Control switches. Once a speed has been set, a momentary press of
either the Set or Resume switch will change the engine RPM by the amount set with this parameter. Note that if the engine is operating at or close to the minimum or maximum engine
RPM for the PTO mode governor, the RPM change may be lower than the setting of this parameter.
At this time, this parameter only applies to Detroit Diesel and Mercedes engines. Cummins engines do not support a "bump up/bump down" feature.
