UNDERSTANDING ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SUPER USER (SUPER USER ONLY)
>> Understand and promote the education objectives and Go-Live plan as a facility subject matter expert.
>> Proctor at least one General User training class (if applicable).
>> Assist with Go-Live and Post Go-Live: Select Super Users will be scheduled to work the day of Go-Live and on shifts following
Go-Live until staff is independent with the new devices.
Information given is intended for hospital/homecare staff certified to make clinical decisions using the device.

BATTERY INFORMATION
>> One sealed, lead-acid, rechargeable 6 V battery, internal to device.
>> The typical battery operating time with a new and fully charged battery is 7 hours when infusing at 25 mL/hr, and
4 hours at 999 mL/hr.
>> The battery charges whenever the infuser is connected to AC power. If the infuser is switched OFF, recharge takes
approximately 8 hours. Recharge takes longer if the infuser is turned ON.
>> To maintain maximum battery charge and to prolong battery life, connect the infuser to AC (mains) power whenever possible.
>> If the low-battery alarm sounds, connect the infuser to AC power immediately.
NOTE: If a Depleted Battery alarm occurs, the device will shut down in 3 minutes. If plugged in, the device will immediately
reboot. When the device reboots, the previous therapy will be maintained when the user presses [No] to the “New Patient?”
question.
ADMINISTRATION SET
>> List Number:
>> Lot Number
>> Open package and remove set.
>> Describe tubing end-to-end:
–– Convertible Piercing Pin with Drip Chamber — Vent open for bottles/closed for bags
–– Slide Clamp
–– Primary Line
–– Secondary Port (Prepierced, capped, or Clave™) — not for IV push delivery of medicine
–– Flow Regulator
–– Cassette Finger Grip
–– Air Trap
–– Pumping Chamber
–– Distal Patient Line
–– Y-site (For IV push delivery of medication)
–– Locking collar connector
–– Protective Cap with Filter to maintain sterility during priming — remove before attaching to patient.
NOTE: The administration set should be changed per facility policy — discard after use.
DEMONSTRATE PRIMING
>> Use aseptic technique with all fluid path connections to prevent contamination and infection. Remove caps when required
and secure all connections.
1. Inspect the administration set packaging. If the packaging is not intact, discard it and use a new set.
2. Open the package and remove the administration set.
3. Press the cassette flow regulator in to make sure it is closed and confirm that there is no flow during priming.
CAUTION: Be careful when piercing the fluid container to avoid puncturing it.
4. Insert the piercing pin into the outlet on the fluid container using a twisting motion.
NOTE: Do not insert the piercing pin while the container is hanging above the infuser.
5. Suspend the container on an IV Pole.
NOTE: Check the container for leaks. If any part of the container is leaking, replace it.
6. Squeeze the drip chamber to the score mark. Do not completely fill the drip chamber.
7. If using a rigid fluid container (glass bottle, for example), open the filter vent cover above the drip chamber. If using a
flexible plastic container, make sure this vent cover is closed.
8. Invert the cassette so that the secondary port is pointing down.
9. Slowly open the flow regulator by turning it counter-clockwise while holding the cassette in the inverted position, to allow
the fluid to flow into the cassette at a controlled rate.
NOTE: To quickly stop the flow at any time, push in on the flow regulator.
10. When the first drop appears in the pumping chamber, turn the cassette upright.
11. Continue to slowly prime the set until all air is removed from the cassette and the remainder of the tubing. Tap the
cassette and tubing to dislodge air bubbles.
NOTE: Invert and tap each Y-site to fill it with fluid, then turn the Y-site upright.
>> If the filter at the distal (patient) end of the tubing gets wet, you must temporarily remove the cap to continue priming.
12. Once priming is complete, push the flow regulator in to close it.
CAUTION: Check the drip chamber and the distal end of the tubing to confirm that there is no flow and that no kinks
appear in the tubing. If you observe flow or leaks, close all clamps and replace the administration set.
NOTE: A small amount of fluid may be expelled from the set (less than or equal to 0.2 mL) when the infuser is powered
on. If potent drugs are being used, take appropriate action to guard against over-medication of the patient.
8. After the infuser completes its startup sequence, insert the connector on the distal tubing into the patient access device.
Move the locking collar over the connection. Turn the collar clockwise to secure the tubing to the patient access device.

been programmed with specified safety limits.
CAUTION: At rates below 0.4 mL/hr, pauses in flow continuity of more than 20 seconds will occur, which may impact
the physiologic response to drugs that have a very short half-life.

Your hospital’s setting is .
>> If a line is in standby and the configured maximum standby time expires, the program on the line is cleared and the infuser
alarms 2 minutes later if there has been no interaction with the pump on either line.
1. From the Delivery Screen, press [Standby].

distal to the cassette during a backprime.
1. Press [STOP].
NOTE: Backpriming is available only when all delivery is stopped. A secondary container or syringe is necessary to
receive the air.
2. Press [BackPrime] and hold until fluid pumped from Line A to Line B clears air from the cassette and from Line B
(if present).
NOTE: If you hold this key for 2 minutes, a stuck key alarm sounds and the display screen shows Power Off then On.
Replace pump if alarm continues.
