SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN PROPAGANDA TECHNIQUES – GRADE 8

I. Objectives:
At the end of the discussion, the students should be able to:
a. Identify the different propaganda techniques;
b. Examine propaganda in terms of techniques and intentions of words used.
c. Recall propaganda techniques.

II. Subject Matter:

For the teacher:Laptop, television, Power Point Presentation
For the student: pen, notebook, pad paper

III. Lesson Procedure

B. Review of the Past Lesson


The Teacher will conduct a review about the past lesson which was about “The
Examining biases”. The students will be asked to discuss the difference of bias and unbiased.

C. Motivation
The teacher will put pictures under the student’s armchairs, and then let the students find it
and observe the pictures.
D. Lesson Proper
The teacher discusses and gives the definition of the topic.

Propaganda is a form of communication that aims to influence the attitude of a community


toward some cause or position by presenting only one side of an argument. Propaganda is
usually repeated and dispersed over various media to create the chosen result in audience
attitudes. It is intended to make us accept or approve something without looking closely at the
evidence.

Types of Propaganda Techniques


1. Card Stacking.
2. Name-calling.
3. Plain Folks.
4. Glittering Generalities.
5. Soft Soap.
6. Bandwagon.
7. Testimonial.
8. Transfer.
9. Simplification.
10. Loaded Words.

E. Generalization
The learners will be asked what they have learned from the lesson. The teacher will
solicit the answer from the learners.

1. What is propaganda?
2. What are the different types of propaganda techniques?
3. Why propaganda techniques are important?

F. Application
The teacher conducts a group activity. The teacher will choose the group members.
Direction: From among the ten (10) propaganda techniques, choose one (1) and create an
advertisement following the criteria below. To be presented in front. Ten (10) minutes for
preparation and three (3) minutes to present.

Criteria:
Content 30 points
Creativity 10 points
Cooperation 10 points
Total 50 points

IV. Evaluation

Let’s further enrich what you have learned about the lesson on Propaganda Techniques by
doing the activity below.

Direction: List five (5) advertised products and their corresponding taglines on the table below. Look for
advertisements from available resources like television, radio, newspaper, or posters. Do this on a
separate sheet.
